New Paint
« on: November 26, 2008, 10:28:38 AM »
I did a search and didnt find what I am looking for. I am picking up my new truck this week and the dealer repainted part of the cab due to a cruched upper cab corner from a 5er. The truck was painted in a heated booth and I know there is generaly a 90 day rule about waxing new paint. But what I am wondering is can I wax the truck when I get it? I know the dealer is not going to put anything on the truck that is going to have much durability against road grime and salt for the winter months.

That was a great read DnD. I understood the concept of the "breathing," but not what actually happens. That also cleared up my confusion on whether new cars need to sit un-waxed for a while.

No problem guys, glad it helped. Like it says in that thread, Megs sells body shop safe (safe for fresh paint) products that you can use to protect the paint for the time being.

Another thing to take away from this is that you dont need to apply products that claim to nourish the paint with oils. If the paint is clear coated, the "oils" arent going to go through the clear. Single stage paint may be a different story however.
