Optimum Opti-Seal...NOT all that and a bag of chips???
« on: September 22, 2008, 04:12:11 AM »
Hey guys...

So I did a full paint correction on a 2002 Lexus RX330 today (Pics to come later) and I decided to try my new bottle of Opti-Seal out for my LSP.

MAN, I must say...NOT impressed!  :wtf:  I tried using it sparingly, or liberally and it just didn't add ANY slickness to the paint surface. I am guessing the answer I will get is that it is somehow different than conventional waxes/sealants and despite the slick 'feeling' it is still providing protection?

The only thing I really was a huge fan of was the fact that I could get it all over the trim, black painted metal (wipers and racks), and even on the windows and it either beautified it or did nothing with a little wiping. That was nice- saves time and tediousness.

So, knowing that the client would give me a big  :BE: and a  :wtf: when the paint didn't feel waxed I followed up with a coat of OCW and it ended up "ok" I suppose.

For good measure, as the client was leaving for a road trip I also added a coat of Meguiar's #26 to the front of the vehicle only to add a little something extra.

I look forward to seeing where this thread goes...

I tried Poli-Seal not too terribly long ago (thanks again, Justin!) and honestly liked it.  It left a pretty good slickness and did the work of a quality cleaner wax type of product...  Opti-Seal has been one that I've been looking to try...

Opti Seal actually get slicker and better looking as it cures.  So, basically in its 24 hour curing period, you will get more slickness and the paint will look a lot glossier.  I love Opti Seal and use it a ton, it is just weird to get used to!

What color vehicle were you using it on?

It doesnt have much slickness at all imo, but I really like it on silvers.

It was two-tone with a champagne on top and charcoal on the bottom.

Well, I guess you guys confirmed my experience. Makes sense.

I have applied it now 3 times to different cars and have to say I like the hell out of it.  In fact at the RV storage yesterday, I thought I would use the "rv wash" bay and spray off the bugs and dirt....water just fell of the paint......i was impressed.

Would you say compared to most conventional waxes or sealants that it lacks in terms of slickness? I haven't had a chance to see how water beads off of it yet, but the feeling on my hand was NOT impressive.

How soon after you applied it did you check the slickness of it?? It seems to gets more slick the longer it cures.

I do know what you are saying...I have noticed that while the surface is absolutely correct and polished etc...it doesn't feel as smooth as it looks unlike some products you've probably used in the past.    Most of the Optimum products I have used gave me that no so slick feel, but after finishing the steps with OQDGE...that slickness came back.

Maybe just me but I do know what you are talking about.

probably less slick than some other sealants, but I think durability is just as good, if not better than some of those sealants.

Within about 15 minutes of application. Interesting that it gets more slick over time though, hmm! I just didn't want to risk leaving at that so I added the OCW for good measure.

Read this thread. It should answer several of your questions about Opti-Seal
