He's so busy he doesn't post for weeks at a time. (Like me.) Then he slaps this one in and I spit Coke all over my keyboard. Nice!  :redneck:

So finally got around to a basic detail on this thing. It’s really a clean up to either trade it in or sell privately. My cousin had a 2021 Explorer ST hit the lot in the right color with the right package, so we are going to look at it on Friday and see if we can make a deal.

Potential new whip

On the X5 I spent most of the time on the interior. But on the outside it got a waterless wash, clay (tons of tar came off), M101 with a orange pad (one pretty quick pass) and poor boys ceramic coating.

I gotta say that I will order some more of the ceramic coating to try on the truck and see how it holds up. It was really nice to apply and left a nice slick feeling.

Couple afters. Pretty rushed, so no befores. The paint is not in great shape on this thing.

Looks pretty good to me!

So BMW is supposed to be a little more upscale, prestigious, a little more higher class.  But I see you’re considering going to a Ford.  My future sister in law has an X5, and while she is not a car person, she’s not hugely impressed or in love with hers.  I think they look nice.  They have power.  How do you feel about the X5 overall?

Overall we really like it. My wife would be happier though if it was one year newer and had a touch screen, instead of just the dial. It rides really well and is phenomenal on fuel, like crazy good (but it is a diesel).

Is has some nice features like blinds for the rear windows and the back seat is roomy too. Service intervals are 13,000kms and I have only had to put DEF in it once in 2 years.

We would never spend the money on a new one, but they are just over priced new and depreciate A LOT in the first 3-4 years. A new equivalent of ours is over $120k.

We liked the new explorer when it came out and now seems to be a good time to look at one. It has every feature the X5 has with a larger Infotainment screen and has more room. It will be harder on gas and harder to fit in the garage though...

How many miles (or Kilometers if you must, haha) in that two years?  The diesel to DEF ratio is about 50:1 or 2% DEF.  That seems accurate to me based on rough numbers I did in my head of the average work week.  My work truck takes 2.5 gallons almost every week and a half or so.

Any other pointers, I have not had a chance to clean up the front clip of the NAv and try it.
- I have to grind down what it on there..

The MKZ got an OPT glosscoat applied to it last year ( APR-2020 ) but it only has ~ 2,000 miles on it since that time.

It seemed to have a decent work time before flashing (garage was about 68 degrees).

I went a little heavier on the application than opti-coat 2.0, but that was just a personal preference.

I’m curious to see how they are going to do PPF on the hood with the “EXPLORER” badge across the front

Did you ask ?

I am worried that they might cut around the lettering all together or worse.. :wow:
