Yeah, long distance haul comfort is mandatory. We test drove a 2016 X5 diesel and it seemed super comfy, but we all know that can change after a few hours behind the wheel. Time will tell, I will leave this up to her with a little bit of influence as needed  :whisp:

Bill's 2016 was fine until we reached the IL border.  Then the next 3 hours from there to DSM were a torture rack.
Then again I have both hips replaced and Bill has a hip and shoulder replacement.
This is not an issue in the Nav. I drive 5+ hours to a lot of places in my territory without this problem and don't dread the return trip once I am there like his X5.
So is it a matter of aches and pains or just annoying ride?  Uncomfortable seats or suspension?  Combination of things?  Suspension is a trade-off of something else.  You can't have it all.  Uncomfortable seats to the point of causing pain, however, I feel there is no excuse for these days.

This is a whole other animal but our work trucks are TERRIBLE!  Now keep in kind they are stripped down 4500s.  But the seats... They cause me so much pain and I spend 3-4 hours per day driving it.  You don't realize it when you get in and drive a half your or so but sit there for an extended period of time and you quickly realize there's a problem.  I've looked in to it and have seen a lot of people complain about the Ram seats causing this exact thing.

I missed this for the exploding turbo...

The seats are not really that comfortable for long distances.  I had 5.5 hrs to play with them the 2nd time and could never find anything that was right.
The seats in my 2006 F150 were more comfortable than the X5 and I had Bilsteins on it so it was not a suspension issue with the X5.
The X5 reminded me of driving the HP-mobile ( 2012 4x4 Escape 4 door ).
The seats in my 2014 Nav are not much different that my 2006 F150 Lariat, aside from the cooling function. They are not the 20 way adjustable ones in the newer version; so it is not as if I have advance seating in my Nav.

The other problem was you could not shift around, the front was kind of small.  I'm 6-1 Bill is 6-5 and 350# ( ex KC Chiefs player ).  Bill did look ridiculous in there, like he was driving a Mini Cooper.
- It was great working with him, I felt small at 282#.

And just as handsome now as I was then - 150 years ago.  :om:

I can only hope I look at good as you do now, when I am 55..
- That is around the corner, so there is not much hope for that.

I do have the same color hair....

I had to slouch down, as not to tower over the moderator..
- I am almost not on the seat..

Good to know, The BMW offered a extended test drive in one, not sure on the year of your buddies, but we are looking at 2016-2017’s.

I’m still thinking we will end up with a new explorer or expedition, but she loved the X5.

Bill had a 2016 and then replaced it with a 2018.  I do not know if they come in trim levels or options; so I cannot say what his were.

If size is not an issue for the wife, go with the Expedition EL.
Problem might be budget.  2016-2017 BMW X5s go for ~ 32k around here all day long.
You are not going to get a new Expedition any trim level for that.
2020 Explorer XLT  would be in the ball park compared to a used X5.

I think you would want the 2020 Explorer ST with the 3.0L TT V6.
That is the same motor as the Mrs' 2017 MKZ. No need to turn a wrench on it, get in press start and go !!

We would like to stick around $60k CDN.

The EL would be out, too long for the Wife and we just don't need that much space. She liked the Shorty, but needs to take it for a spin again.

#1 on my list is the Explorer ST, but only going off what I can see as of yet. It may be a 'whole different convo when we actually drive it.

I'm going to try to use some of this down-time on the truck to get the rear end cover and the gauges done.

Diff cover swapped and Aimsoil fluid used.

I might have to do a hand wash in the garage. This thing is crazy dirty

Because I’m still waiting on the turbo. Probably be a while yet. Trying to get other stuff done while I wait.

Almost got it all done last night. Family time today, but should be able to sneak out to the garage to wrap it up.

Then I will be spending some time to do a spring clean up on it and under it.

You need to make 6 or 7 more trips out to the mountains to get these tunes dialed in so you can get this thing on a Dyno.

I don't know how you get anything done at the new house with the truck project.
As I was reading: spring clean up that is going to be house... Nope truck again..

How long before the wife turns you and the truck into a Viking Funeral ?

I finished the truck up last night and went for a drive. All seems good, it will just take a while to get all the oil out of the exhaust.
