You're probably right, but should be much smaller and cheaper items, I hope...

Skid plates ordered up in Aluminum to save a bit of weight. Should only add about 25lbs once I remove the OEM skids.

I made the mistake of looking local for a winch and may have found one. I'll see if it's still posted up when I get home. Good Price and it's BNIB.

What all will the skid plates be covering?  Are they making them in HDPE yet or even UHDPE?  Very light and strong and also has the ability to glide over rocks rather than grab on and hang up.  Also doesn't dent.  I have a full front to back sheet under my Grizzly.  It can even be heated and bent.

I think they are a pretty standard Aluminum Alloy, 1/4" thick. Should be able to protect things since I have no plans on doing anything crazy off-road. May even help a tiny, tiny, tiny bit in the mpg department, lol.

I bought the "set", so basically four pieces.
- Front cover behind the bumper
- Engine plate
- Transmission plate
- Transfercase plate

You can also buy the gas tank skid, but the truck already came with one, and I didn't see a need in replacing it.
The truck is a FX4, so it already has a engine and transfer-case plates that I'll be replacing. hey aren't very good for much and these will look much nicer. Main driver for the purchase was to protect the down-pipes where they cross under the transmission. Nothing was there OEM other than a rigid fabric type piece that I figure is more for mileage than anything else.

I'll see what kind of a pain it is to drop the front skid to get at the oil filter. I may be looking at a relocation kit, but weary as I have heard they can be unreliable.

According to the tracking, I may have them by Friday. It they show up, I'll try and get them on this weekend.

Sounds like a nice one stop shop for the plates.

Dumb question, do they hold a lot of salt ?
-I don't have any under my nav, so I have nothing to work from a factory standpoint.

The oil relocation kits, I have read a lot of good sucess stories on F150OL, but I was also  scared of them.
- I had all the parts for my 2001, but never did it.

I never thought about the salt.  I know they're aluminum but holding that salt up against the steel could be problematic.  We have a truck at work we used for snow removal.  No plowing.  Just hauling shovels, blowers and salt and spreaders around.  That truck took a beating and it rusting far faster than even the older ones that don't get used or that.  I know my Grizzly skids hold a ton of mud but then again I'm also riding in waist deep mud and water.

That was my line of thinking and being in salt country, everything starts with this thought in my head.

I don't know if it is or not, I don't have a frame of reference to work from.
- The nav is not exactly off road material from the factory.

Very good question Steve!

They are designed to have drainage areas, but are mostly flat and I do expect they will hold onto stuff. Two out of the four skids are replacing OEM skids, the OEM ones hold crap too I've noticed and I do rinse them out when needed.

Bonus for me is that salt is a rarity around here and I'll have make sure I rinse them out regularly.

I thought about the coated ones to help with "corrosion", but hope that my usual application of fluid film and Krown will help.

So no different than the way it came from Ford.  That is good.
- I don't have skid plates, that is why I asked the dumb question.

They are AL, so they might get the dissimilar metal corrosion like the non stand off FPDM got back in the day; but at least you can get to these without needing 2 steps before hand.

My thought was centered around where they connect to the truck, not the plates.
The plates are easy to change if they get really bad; so solid call on not spending the cash on the coated ones.

I have a set of rubber washers that I'll use to isolate the plates from the frame. Honestly not worried about the bolt heads against the plates as they are treated bolts.

They should be arriving tomorrow!

Skid plate showed up today. I hope to get them on tomorrow. I'll be doing an oil change and adding a fumoto valve at the same time.

Nice !!

The mfgr did a nice job with that kit.  Any problems putting it on or was it all direct bolt up ?
