It’s not even my truck and I feel like this is a setback for all of us.  Haha.  I look forward to the updates and hearing how it’s running and what kind of power it’s making.

It’s very disappointing, but stuff happens. Depends on the extent of the damage, but hopefully I’ll have it back up before June.

No no no.  That’s too far away.  That’s not going to work for me.  You’re going to need to order some parts.  Take some vacation time.  If you have to miss the wife or kids birthdays, so be it.  Take one for the team.

So does this mean more upgrades or do you think it was an issue that can be fixed tuning and just replacing what’s needed?

I think it’s all just OEM parts that failed and will be going back in. I’m not aware of any aftermarket timing chains and phasers that aren’t junk.

No issues found up top, so I’m gonna have to pull the front cover off the motor and make sure that everything is good with the timing chains and guides.

What’s the worst case floating around in your head right now?

Unless I find something crazy that damaged the Block behind the front cover, worst case is a timing set, engine harness (incase of any pinched wires), cam sensor and possibly cam positioning solenoids.

Not a crazy amount to replace all of that, but not cheap. Probably around $4k

$4k isn’t exactly chump change.  I think we value money differently.  Haha.  It is only .4% of the trucks million dollar worth.

Hahaha, it’s all relative when you go in thinking it could be another $18k motor…

Looks like the timing chain did stretch. I’ll have a few parts to get ordered and then we will get it back together and on the road.

So I don’t get this in depth on anything.  On a scale of not bad to worst case, where does this fall?

I think for the average dude, this is a pretty big job. In all honesty though, there isn't anything that difficult about swapping the timing set, just time consuming and a pain in the butt to clean all the surfaces before re-assembly. I had to order some specialty tools to hold the cams in place, so once those come in, I'll get it tore right down. Then I can order whatever I need and not have to wait on anything. Parts are usually here the next day when I order from my cousins dealership.

Damn dude, that sucks that it broke right in the middle of a trip but at least you got it back home and it's nothing too major.

However, I feel the thread name needs to be changed to " What did Ryan break now?". Sorry Ryan I couldn't help myself.

Hahahaha, that’s kind of what it turned into. I guess it happens when you have the same vehicle for 8 years from new and modify the crap out of it
