Optimum Spray Wax
« on: September 09, 2008, 08:13:19 PM »
3rd day of rain in DFW and my truck is still in the garage.

So I wiped it down and put some Optimum Spray Wax on the truck.

What's everyone's experience with it?  Like it dislike it?  How did you apply it?  Any streaking?

I sprayed some on the surface, and on a foam applicator and covered the area...let it sit for a tad...buffed it off with an MF.

Thanks for visiting the Cafe, come back often.  There's always something new!

I get a VERY light shadow effect at times with it...

My application is, more or less, spray on, spread evenly with one MF, allow to sit for about a minute (maybe not that long), and then use a higher pile MF to remove it...

Problems?

Thanks Rock

I noticed a bit of streaking in a few places....and more than that in others.  It almost looks like a darker color line in some places.  I have kept my truck out of the rain for 3 days well 2 really....I want to drive it but with the Hurricane on the way, it's gonna get wet.  We were supposed to head back to Hot Springs on Wed but now going to wait until next wed...I know I am way off topic.

There is no need to let the Spray Wax sit on the paint at all.  Just mist it on like a quick detailer and wipe right away with a microfiber.  Sometimes I make a first pass with one microfiber and then take one more with another, this will elminate any streaking at all.  This isn't something that is totally necessary, just something that works well for me.  Also, remember with the Optimum Spray Wax that you don't have to spray a lot, just mist the panel and then wipe off.

The condition that you're describing is what I've always called 'shadowing'...

Like Justin mentioned, there's no reason to allow it to 'sit' on the paint but, for me, I find that I actually like the darkness that it yields if I do allow it to sit a second...  maybe all in my head but, I see it as beneficial to allow it to sit a bit... *shrugs*

Exactly how I use it. Lightly mist then wipe with a MF.

RR, what was on the paint before you used OCW?

Everytime I've let it sit on there, it is really hard getting off.  You can't beat the look and slickness it gives for a spray wax.

I put it over Opti-Seal that was there for about 24 hours.

I never let it dry to the paint for that EXACT reason.  The first time I used it, I learned that in a jiffy...

I was treating this product like many of the other Spray Waxes on the market (Like NXT Spray -- which is HORRIBLE)... after reading the instructions, I quickly learned that I was using it incorrectly.  :)

You're right though... the slickness is hard to beat... great stuff... I *love* it.

Agreed, it does remind of the other Optimum product, the QD Spray, gloss thing....the white stuff...its impressive for sure.

Next time I will simply follow the instructions and use one for on, one for off.  :smack:

I do have to say without sounding corny, this site and our membership I have to thank for allowing me to accept the fact that despite my efforts of the past few years, I really didn't know all that much, or better put, I was more lucky with results...I have learned so much more from this site and the membership.

I just went to the garage to get my GPS out of the truck and I caught myself just looking at the paint, I dare say this but, its almost perfect.  With all the things going crazy in my life right now, having that burden of "my truck isn't right" in my head has plagued me.  Having it to what it is now really takes a weight off my shoulders and makes me now look to other things to work on.

Ok, maybe that should have gone in the soap box.

I've always spread it with a good MF (or WW during drying process) and lightly buff it immediately with another good MF. I'll have to try letting it sit for 30 seconds or so before I buff it.

I also love the stuff.

Least aggressive product first = The MOST aggressive process (product/pad/machine speed) that will get the job done by removing the LEAST amount of paint, with the LEAST amount of work, in the LEAST amount of time.

I have always used it by misting on, then wiping off immediately.

It may be in my head but, it really does seem to help with a bit of 'darkening' - obviously, on darker colors... *shrugs*

I buff mine into, and off of the paint immediately after misting it onto the panel. I just use a nice microfiber and working it around evenly until it disappears. I love the stuff!

Adds definite slickness to the surface. I actually follow up with M135 or UQD as well. but I'm nuts like that   :hammer:
