Help me find this
« on: January 16, 2014, 03:46:22 PM »
Im not a big fan of the real leather shammy I find it sticks and drags and a pain to dry with.  Years ago someone gave me I guess what you would call a synthetic shammy when it dries its hard like a shammy and when wet its softer and has some elasticity to it.  But it dries like a champ with no scratching. Anyone know what I mean or where I might buy more online ? If not what are you guys using ?

Thanks

I know what you are talking about but those things are a thing of the past now with Microfiber.

Pick yourself up a good high quality Microfiber Waffle Weave Drying Towel and you will simply be amazed at how much better it dries  :wow:

Some brands to consider:

Poorboy's World Waffle Weave Drying Towel - http://poorboysworld.com/microfiber.htm
Cobra Guzzler - http://www.autogeek.net/cobra-guzzler-hd-towel.html

and I'm sure www.obsessivedetail.com has some drying towels he is a sponsor on here

The absorber ?

I had one of these decades ago that I used to use on paint.
- 15+ years ago I started using waffle weave MF towels on paint and used this on the glass patio table before the tornado took that away.  After the table top "ran away from home" I tossed it in the trash.

Great PB one for either standard washing dry of paint and my preferred for drying after a ONR wash :
24" x 36" SOFT & ABSORBANT WAFFLE WEAVE DRYING TOWEL
http://www.poorboysworld.com/microfiber.htm
- 3rd item from the bottom.

In the winter I move my polish MF's downstairs and bring up 12 more of these for ONR washes.

They fit great on a Leifheit Telescoping Drying Rack
- ASIN: B003XRMH4E

I cut the bottom off ( as not to block the top door ) and mounted this to the top of my pharmacy cabinets, so I can extend it for additional drying space.  I just drape it over, no clothes pins for me  :wow:

What are you guys using for wash mitts the new micro fiber ones ? They seem skimpy a bit like they would scratch ? I am going to order those waffle shames so want to order some extras at the same time.

I use the microfiber ones and really like them. They felt a little weird in my hand at first, but the more I used them, the more I liked them.

Orange Poorboy's chenille wash mitts are my go to.  I've used a lot.  I like quite a few.  That's the one I keep going back to.

Anyone ever try these ? Almost same size and half the price as the PB

http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Water-Magnet-Drying-Towel/dp/B0009IQZFM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1390691053&sr=8-1&keywords=waffle+drying+towel

I bought a couple of them about 5 years ago. They faded into "boat bottom only", then total non-use in my collection. They just felt too abrasive to me after a few washings.

I have/had a few of those megs water magnets. I didn't care for them but if I remember correctly I was told they get better over time and better once they're damp.  I don't know.  I just didn't care for them.  Megs has a lot of nice stuff.  Towels aren't one of them.  Then again, I don't really use waffle weave towels.  My drying step always includes a spray wax or instant detailer of some sort.  I figure if its good enough to use a regular MF towel with a quick detailer or spray wax when the paint is dry them why not when its wet.  No one ever uses a waffle weave on a dry car.  And to further add to my drying step, a spray wax or quick detailer still isn't really necessary other than for lubricant while drying because I usually use Poorboy's Super Slick and Wax which actually does offer a decent amount of protection just from the wash soap.  And if you wash regularly then there really isn't much need for much else other than for piece of mind or different looks.  If I'm waxing or polishing i won't use SS&W though.  Seems like a waste of the W part of the equation.  In that case I use SS&S (suds instead of wax) or Optimum Car Wash (I still love this stuff.  That smell and those suds!)
