GTO detail this past weekend.
« on: August 18, 2008, 12:31:51 PM »
Ok guys, this was my first time working on a car that wasn't mine. I wanted to get some more time in on my own vehicles and do some more experimenting but the word got passed around early.... I do know the guy well, so I decided I'd give it a go.

Before I get to any pictures I would like to say that I was only working on the paint. He didn't want any interior or engine work done (already pretty clean). And, he said not to mess with the wheels and tires either. He just got new skins put on and they damaged his wheels, so they are going back to be replaced.

Here was my process (please give me your thoughts/tips/advice/criticism):
-Wash
-Clay, #34 and Meg's white clay
-PB Professional Polish, white CCS pad on PC
-PB Black Hole, gray CCS pad on PC
-EX-P, blue CCS on PC
-#16 on hood, roof, and deck lid/spoiler

Let me know what you think.... on to the pics.

And some afters:

Sorry about the picture quality.... my 'newest' camera took a crap, so I had to revert back to ole 2.1 MP that I bought YEARS ago. Definitely time to invest in a new one. Overall it took me just over 10 hours, not really sure if thats good or bad since this was my first one.

Looks great to me. I love looking at deep, rich colors like that after a proper detail. Nice work.

One question though. You went pretty wild with the blue painters tape. Why so? I usually tape off less to keep the cost down.

Nice job.  I look at one of those every day.  The first time I polished my car it took roughly 10 hours or so.  So your time wasn't bad at all.

Thanks everyone! This was an awesome color to work on, and it really grew on me by the time I was finished.

Yeah, I used plenty. I wasn't sure how big of a mess I was going to make, so I just played it safe. I will say that I didn't have to do a lot of wiping down after removing it all, but that stuff isn't cheap either. I'll keep it in mind for next time though.
