Cleaning Nylon Webbing
« on: May 14, 2009, 10:12:20 AM »
This isn't related to a vehicle, but if the process works, I may use it in the future for nylon straps for towing and such.

I found a UK issue belt for wear with kilts from WWII era. I'd like to clean it up and use it. It's some thick, heavy nylon webbing. Comes complete with rust stains. I've heard lemon juice works well - going to try that when I get home.

I've also read that Bar Keepers Friend Cleanser & Polish can work. Any input on that? Obviously the best bet is to try a discrete area first, but I'd rather not buy some product I'll never use again if I don't need to.

Thanks folks.

APC+???

Ditto.  APC+ 10:1 is what I use on seatbelts.  It got cherry ice cream out of my tan seatbelts last month.

The only thing I'm worried about with APC is whether or not it'll kill the dyes. I guess it wouldn't - I've used it on seats before.

Meg's considers it fabric/carpet safe diluted at 10:1.  Where like Simple Green is big bad for fabric and carpet.  If it's not worth much what do you have to loose.  If it's worth a lot I'd take it to a professional to get it cleaned.

It was only 16 euros shipped from the UK. I should've held out and bought a new one, but they were out of stock of the "non-issued" ones.
