Title: Just in Case Size Matters
Post by: Too Stroked on March 21, 2022, 06:15:53 PM
Like the title says, sometimes size matters. This past weekend I did a big favor for a friend and did some detailing on his brand-new Kenworth 10-wheel dump truck. Not only was this the biggest (and tallest) vehicle I've ever worked on, but it was also clearly the most expensive too.

The truck had been sitting since late fall and the owner was getting ready to press it into service. He asked me to quote him a price to ceramic coat the whole truck and I was really torn because I didn't want to scare the hell out of him, but I didn't really want to do it either. So, after scaring him just a bit, we settled on a process where I would wash, clay and polymer seal (Jescar Power Lock) the box, then single stage polish and ceramic coat (Carpro CQuartz UK 3.0) the entire cab.

Here's what it looked like at the end of the first day with the box done and the cab ready for correction and coating.

I'd love to say I had some awesome shots of the truck after I was done mid-afternoon on the second day, but as you might guess, I was flat out exhausted and just wanted to pack up and crawl home to bed. I can tell you that the owner came in the next morning to view the results and was very, very happy. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get covered in spring mud.

Holy! That’s a detail and a half. I can only imagine your arms are ready to fall off.

Impressive!

I hadn't even picked up the Flex since last fall. Then I spent almost 2 days on this thing. My knuckles are still dragging on the ground.

A few more after pics outside in the sunlight. I have to say, the darn thing shines so much it almost hurts to look at it.

There’s something unsettling about a dump truck being THAT clean and sharp looking.  Maybe because I’ve only worked with and for people who can’t be bothered to take care of themselves let alone their trucks.

That thing looks ridiculous.  I’m ready to throw I. The towel just looking at the wheels.  They are not fun.

Nice work, Tom!

Tom that is impressive by a country mile.   :wow:.

I think I would have told him 5K for a price tag, so he would not want to do it.

I recall how bad it was doing mom & Dad's 38' RV, this had to be 10x harder.

Damn Tom

I honesty thought you were going to talk the guy out of that one.

Impressive to say the least.
