Ok, we've all been scolded for not posting pictures - or maybe posting "incorrect" pictures of our detailing work. The worst possible offense appears to be that of posting "reflecto shots." These pictures can sometimes make sub-par detailing work look wonderful. Then again, sometimes great detailing work looks pretty decent in one of these.
So, I thought I'd open a thread to celebrate all of our best reflecto shots. The sleazier, the better. Here's mine. That's my freshly washed 2006 Scion next to my freshly detailed 2005 F150. What's in your wallet?

Just kidding.

I'll get my gallery back up and going soon... I have some shameless pics too..> LOL! <

my OP is worse than that too...when tried a few close ups today...wow, not doing that again.
Here you can clearly see the OP

I've been thinking about trying to address it by sanding it down, but have never done it before....not that I'm afraid of trying.
Don't know how much confidence I have in the thickness of the clearcoat.
-
OK, you guys have really forced my hand here. You've gone cheaper and more shameless than I ever thought possible - like JP with the garage floor. Worse yet, RP has been a little busy at work and hasn't even weighed in yet. So, I'm going to break new ground (and probably wind) by raising the cheap and shameless bar as far as I dare on a family site. Eat your hearts out!

I think reflecto's serve a purpose, personally. None of the other pictures of my truck from that day really capture the beauty.

hwm3,
No fair using mirrors! Then again, the title of this thread was "cheap and shameless." OK, I'll buy them. Nice work! Curses, foiled again!

Not bad on the cheap and shameless fronts. Clever how you even levitated the car off the ground in a couple of shots. Now I always do my wheel wells and tires, but I rarely raise the car to get the bottom side of the tires. Neat trick!
-
LOL!
I wondered who would be 1st to comment on that... I wanted to get the FULL affect of cheap reflecto shots!
-

Do I get bonus points for them being reflections of a reflection?
I don't want to speak for 2-Stroked but I would say those are shameless, tasteless and an abomination. In other other words those are fantastic and yes, double pts for reflection of reflections should be considered.

Yes, I'll call it a new low - which of course is totally legal here! The big question is, can anyone stoop even lower. Hmmm, haven't heard from RP yet ...
-
Got a few more shameless....
Funny, I took these just for this thread....Is that shameless ?

What, now we're actually worrying about degrees of cheap or shameless? Those pics are pretty shamelsss though. I'm still waiting for RP to lower himself to our level. RP?

Here is a good one!

BTW, this is a fun thread, so I sticky'd it.

That does it. Now I'm going to find a mirror. Awesome shots! (Cheap and sleazy too.) I'd post some up of myself reflected in my work, but I can't afford new camera lenses every time I do that.

Funny post 2Stroked.

Since RollingRock upped the ante with his last post, I?ve been on the lookout for something cheaper and even more shameless. (Not an easy task I might add.) This past weekend I found several opportunities. The shots of my (17 year old) boat deck are after SSR 1 followed by Duragloss 501 Marine polish and the truck after SSR 1 followed by Zaino Z2 Pro. Take that!
:nana:

So, do you folks think these shots of my boat deck or my truck are cheap or shameless enough, or do I have to find something else?
-
Those are absolutely redonkulas.
That white on the truck looks like its still wet from the paint booth.
:nw:

Thanks RR, but I'm just trying to keep up with the masters. Somehow I know there's somebody out there that can lower the bar even more! You're right, this is a fun thread.

I am learning from you now.....you passed me a while back. That boat is crazy glossy. I bet your folks on the water just drool over it...pardon the pun.

Actually, I had to outlaw drooling - along with walking - on the deck. Makes a mess out of things.

Hmmmm, nice! And what would that be lurking under the tarp. Would that be an old TA?
-
That would be a TA (1973) hiding under the cover.
Not to give my age away - but I bought it new - Only 34,000 on the ticker. Matching numbers. Original brakes, clutch and just about every thing. 95%+ original. 455/4 speed.
Robby32
-
Sweet! That's what I thought it was. Not to give my age away (53), but I wasn't smart enough (or able to) hang on to my favorite car from that time period. Oh well. Don't ever let that thing get away from you. Oh yea, and post pics!
-
Yes please post some pics! I love T/A's.
Man you guys make me feel like a pup (29). :redneck:

Here is the TA - It still is fun to drive. :wow: I just don't get it out enough.

Here's a small contribution. The car hasn't been detailed. But the lighting was perfect for non-swirly reflectos.
Nice tree shot

Those are good Tony!!!!
Here are a few from this past weekend.
I think they are sleazy cheap and shameless (what I think is cool about these is that fact my truck was in the shade and the light was reflecting off the camper to the door making it a kind of a double reflecto.

RR that is really lowering or is it raising the bar for cheap reflecto shots. BTW, love the sound of the PSD :nw:

Thanks, that is really lowering it on the shameless level for sure. :slow: At least I think.
Really Suprise 2Stroked hasn't said anything yet. :nana:

OK, here I am! Sorry it took so long, but when somebody out cheaps and then out shamlesses me, I just don't know what to do.

So, I went to see my shrink and I'm all better now. Besides, in a few more weeks I'll have a brandy new truck sitting in the driveway. :nana:

Magic?? I don't know about that! I will post what I have. I'm terrible at documenting when detailing.

Dear Mr. Chapman,
As the starter of this fine thread and chief judge of all new entrants, it is my duty to inform you that your recent submission has been rejected. After much deliberation (and the consumption of at least 2 domestic beers), I have found your submission to be both original and unique. Unfortunately, I also have reason to believe that all three pictures we somehow altered to enhance the reflective properties of that otherwise awesome car. I can find no credible record of any finish (silver or otherwise) ever looking that damn good. So, nice try, but no dice.
Now that I've got the humor out of the way, man, what a totally, totally awesome job!

That silver is unbelievable, but I have to agree with Attworth.

:nw: :nw: :nw: :nw: :nw: :nw:
Why thank you sir!
Man I just wish it wasn't so damn cold outside! Have cars to do!!! :bitch:

Hey Nick how were the shots?
Feeling any better?

Hey Nick how were the shots?
Feeling any better?
Shots were great! Went in Monday morning at 6:45, was knocked out by 7:40, and we were back at the house by 9:45. My back was numb from the local anesthesia most of the day Monday, and was pretty loopy most of that day from being knocked out and my regular drugs. But Tuesday and today I feel awesome! At least for the short term the shots seem to be helping, but we'll see about the long term results. I can tell you one thing though, after a little over 10 years of major pain with my back, butt and legs, it feels absolutely AMAZING to not have any pain right now! I can't tell you how much better of a mood I've been in! Absolutely amazing!
Thanks for asking!

I had to think long and hard over this one before posting. (Does 3 seconds count as long and hard?) Once over that significant hurdle, I had to determine a picture from yesterday's detail actually met all of our rigid criteria. So here's my logic:
Cheap: If that ain't trailer trash reflected in the paint, I don't know what it.
Shamless: Hell, I'm posting it right?
Reflecto Shot: Enough said.

Nice try, but go up one post and check out the "truck quarter panel benchmark." Close, but no cigar! Damn I like that color on your truck though!
:dunno:

Sorry, but I just couldn't resist this one when I saw it after my son installed the new TRD stainless steel exhaust on the Scion.

How did I somehow miss this one? This is quite possibly my very best work on any black vehcle. Better yet, this was shot in direct sunlight. I get to see this truck several times a week and it still looks absolutely awesome.

I just couldn?t resist adding a few new pics from the Charger I did this past weekend. I was feeling cheap, the reflecto shots are truly shameless, so this has got to be 100% legal.

you're in the support group. I think you are the leader of that said group.

Here is a new vehicle prep that I did yesterday. This was just a wash, polish, and seal.
The truck had some light dealer swirls, I used Optimum Hyper Polish Spray with a white polishing pad and then jeweled the paint with a gray finishing pad and the Hyper Polish Spray. Then I applied Optimum Opti Seal for protection.

Is it possible to be perfect and shameless at the same time?

There's gotta be an ultra shameless for showing correction and shameless at the same time.
-
Sorry JP, it is (generally) only possible to be cheap and shameless at the same time. I could (with a few drinks) be talked into believing that one can be cheap, shameless and perfect at the same time though - not that I would know anything about how that might possibly feel.
:redneck:
As for what you might win, I've got to think about that one. What would be an appropriate prize for being cheap, shameless and perfect? Hmmmm. Oh, I could have some fun with this! Give me a bit of time to ponder.

Geez, I'd almost forgotten about this thread. Now I'm feeling cheap and shameless in addition to cheerful. Thanks JP!
-
My very first detail job. Sorry there was only one decent photo of the car. I went to my next door neighbor and said "I'm representing the neighborhood and I'd like to talk to you about either a). parking your dirty, nasty 1984 Ford Escort inside your garage or b). let me have it for a couple of days and I'll make all the neighbors jealous." Of course she almost died laughing while she handed me the keys. The car had never been waxed and was washed via a drive-through car wash with the spinning brushes that beat the car to death.
I had just received my DA polisher and my first order of detailing supplies. Spent the next two days working on both the inside and outside until I was satisfied. When I gave her the keys and she walked outside, she burst into tears!
I went back later and offered to paint her bumpers and all the black trim. Completed that over the next couple of weekends and the car really turned out nice. She was so happy!
I learned alot during this process about detailing and how much work it can be. But in the end it's satisfying to me see a transformation and to make someone else happy.
Unfortunately, the engine blew a month later and it was a sad day when "Cinnamon" was towed away.

nice shots. This is from the S63 I did a couple weekends ago.

Very very nice work and pictures Nick.
-
Nick, hose are redirkulas.....
Extra shameless for editing the photos prior too posting.
-
You know, when I started this thread, I was feeling "adequately cheap and shameless." Then every once in a while somebody would get "extra cheap and shameless" on me and I'd have to detail something to get my Mojo back. It usually worked.
Now Nick steps in after a long absence and look what he's done. Is it even humanly possible to get any cheaper and more shameless? My gut tells me yes and this would be the site to watch it happen!
Nice work Nick! Anybody seen my Mojo? Man, I gotta find a mirror to detail.
-
Holy crap Nick... those are some crazy pics!

Man is it hot. Pushed though today to get my truck back into fighting shape. It hadn't been worked on since last august! But fyi the #16 was still beading when I washed it. :wow:

Well, I've got to say, taking pictures of cars you didn't detail certainly fits the "cheap" part. Nice going! Just when I think nobody could stoop any lower ...
:redneck:

Well the reflection is at least ON my car. :nana:

You should have quick detailed one of the panels on the Merc to try to get a reflection back of your car. Like opposing mirrors. Imagine the owners surprise if they come back and find you polishing just a door.

I'd like to thank Blown F-150 for reminding me that I'd posted some pics up that were cheap and shameless enough to add to this thread. I'd have never remembered (all by myself) that I could stoop so low. :redneck:

That burgundy looks great all cleaned up!
Thanks. The official Scion name for the color is Dark Cherry. Had a guy stop me at the gas station last year and ask me who painted it. When I told him is was stock, he told me it couldn't be - because he had the same car in the same color. That led to the usual conversation on what miracle wax I was using. Yea, like it was just the wax. :redneck:

Just so Nick Chapman has some competition here. And remember, this is original paint on a 2009 vehicle with 80,000 hard miles on it.

4 drink holders is pretty standard on carts, it is for golf... Golf is just like fishing, the only thing I ever catch is a hang over ( damn beer ).

Adam,
First off, welcome to the site. Second, JP is correct about this particular thread. I will (somewhat shamefully) admit to having started it way back when as a way to have some fun. Little did I know ...
So yes, this thread is where you can get all sorts of cheap and shameless without having to worry about it. When it comes to real detailing, we have other areas for that stuff!

And one should always strive for "Fun House Mirror" shots of themselves while getting shameless. Do you think these make me look fat?

Whoa whoa whoa, Tom. My tricycle has rainbow handle bar tassels and flames, thank you very much!

Sweet! How'd you get Kitzy's tricycle in the shot?
that's my shop trike. Makes trips to the clubhouse and bathroom easier on my old man legs.

It needs a basket to haul trash bags full of MF's to the dumpster.
Too soon?

Overstuffed chair next to the oil drainer? Hmmm. Does oil really flow that slowly in Texas?

Direct Lift Pro Park 8 PLus. Bought from Derek Weaver Equipment in Fort Worth.
Fantastic company to do business with. Ordered form them, used their recommended installer who picked it up from Weaver and brought it to me. Very pleased with the lift, with Derek Weaver and with the installer, David At Your Service.

Looking good, Jason. You must get bored while you camp.
Mike, I cannot sit still man...the camper hasn't been waxed in 10 months so was able to get her some ONR and and a fresh coat of Optimum Spray Wax...funny thing is, the last application of Spray Wax was still good...my camper is in storage fully enclosed so it doesn't see much UV light if at all. But dag gum, when she is clean she is clean.
And the F250 got a proper bath and wax before the trip. So she was all purdy like.
-
I hear ya. I sit around and relax and I feel like crap. Like I wasted the day. I stay busy, feel accomplished, but wish I would have had some down time. Can't win.

It was nerve racking at first. Had all kinds of problem with lighting. (Hence my post at F150OL) I was using neighbors LED work lights. OMG they are terrible for detailing.
That and I couldn't get the syringe to work properly. Gloss Coat flashes very fast. Wasn't sure if I had enough on it. I ended up redoing the first panel.

Cannot take credit for these....my wife took them as she knows how important it is to be shameless

It has absolutely nothing to do with liking that color. The sad truth is, you're getting older. Then again, you could be as old as me ...
-
I do love this Magnetic Metallic. My 2nd one in 1 year. LOL
Its pretty freaking deep. Reminds me of the Tuxedo Black a little.
-
I saw this today and it got me feeling cheap and shameless. My ScanGrip sunlight was laying on the ground next to a vehicle I was detailing at work. I shot straight down towards the floor.

Not exactly. I'm trying to slow down the process a bit because I'm working too hard. I figure if I can improve the quality by reducing the quota just a bit ...

Well, here's what the whole truck looked like just before I rolled it out. It sold to the very first person who looked at it later that day.
