Pimping out the Rotary!
« on: March 22, 2009, 03:58:08 PM »
My Makita 9227 will be here tomorrow. Picking up some body panels to practice on just for the heck of it too.

I'm looking to get some new pads, full size and mini pads. I'm probaly going to order justin's pack of 4 inch pads for my g110, that being said, who sells an adapator to run 4 inch pads on a rotary? Not having much luck with that. The megs solo backing plate seems to be the favored one around here so i'll probaly pick that up.

I'm looking for wool pads too. Does anyone have any specifics they like? I'm more than likely going to order i'll probaly end up ordering http://autogeek.net/the-edge-2000-plus-6-inch-wool-buffing-pads.html unless someone knows of some better ones.

What about solo pads? I know you like those Rockpick how do they work out?

If you mean an adaptar to run a DA backing plate on the rotary, Justin sells that also.

Ah, you are correct.  For some reason I thought it was the other way around.  That makes sense though as he doesn't sell rotaries.   :thump:  Why not just get a small rotary backing plate.  If you want to use it on the DA then get the adapter.

Any help guys?

Sorry, Mike ... I missed this one previously...

As for the So1o pads -- yeah, I *love* them but, namely for non-diminishing products (ie: M-86, M-105, M-205) as they tend to hold some product in the cross-cut... I've managed to get to the point that I know how much more downward pressure to put on the pad in order to make it release more product.  That comes with a tiny bit of practice (it won't take you more than half of a hood to get the hang of it) so that I'm not constantly having to reach for my dispensing bottle for another squirt...

As for the 4" adapter... I would have SWORN that Rick sold something like this but, with his new site, I can't find crap (I liked the rustic, old, cheesy one better than the new '.net' one).  Just for giggles, I'd give him a yell -- it seems like the adapter was made by B&S (buff & shine).

I hope that helps a tiny bit... again, sorry about the lag in response, man.

The small 2 7/8 backing plate I carry screws right onto the rotary.  Then you can get the adapter for it and it will work with a DA.  The 4 inch foam pads and 3.5 inch purple foamed wool pads work great with that backing plate.

The yellow 'light cut' wool is probably my favorite pad that is on the market from any manufac...

I'm not as big on the burgundy(heavy cut) wool -- frankly though, I rarely find an occasion to need to use that beast.
