I've read two different things on this.  I've read it's a copy of the 7424 and I've also heard it's based off of the 7424 but with a bit more power.

I think those little circles are supposed to be replicating your hand motions if you were doing it by hand, all while the entire thing is spinning.  Does that make sense?

If you were doing it by hand, you would be making little circles like those.  However, not 8 of them at once.  The machine will not only spin the pad but it will also oscillate to mimic hand motions.  That's really a horrible diagram.  If you didn't already know that, the diagram is not going to teach you.  Haha.

They are known to have a lot of problems with them.  If you go to Autopia.org and do a search, you will see what I'm talking about.  The PC and the Flex are the best quality dual action polishers you can get.

The first UDM design (which I own) was a unique design. It has higher OPM's. etc than PC so bogs down less. Many say it vibrates more (different than PC). There were a lot of reliability issues (many sounded like premature brush failure). I have not had any issues but do not use it enough (shame on me).  They were fixing the old ones under extended warranty.

They introduced a new model about a year later and essentially re-labeled a PC. It is called the UDM by Porter Cable (something like that).

Meguiars ended up doing a custom unit too (G110) and they have had some launch issues. The original model G100 was essentially a PC with a better warranty.
