A different kind of Detail
« on: February 02, 2009, 01:02:22 PM »
I decided the motor in my 280ZX looked like crap for too long. Plus I needed to change the injector connections anyway. I re-routed them behind the fuel rail and along the firewall, rather than a large harness laying over the top of the intake manifold. I still need to clean up all the vacuum hoses and eliminate some of the emissions crap that's not needed. It still needs a lot of work.

Also cleaned up the intake manifold while I had the fuel rail off as well as the valve cover. I didn't take a before picture, but I'll just say that those orange letters weren't visible before.

And here's the beauty ( :biglaugh: ) after I washed it finally.

Like this one? My previous Z.. Nice little turbo swap I did while I was a senior in High School. Now my brother owns it and it sits in my mother's driveway.  :BE:

Or this one?

This is my 5th Z. I can't get away from them.

I'd like to get a 350Z if I ever get rich. They're funny looking, but they sure are quick, and extremely reliable. (My 81 has over 215,000 miles on it.)

I still need a 71-72 in original condition, and a 75-78 with a SBC.

Those are nice cars and fun from what I hear. My mother had a 240Z until I showed up 34 years ago and ruined her fun. Or so I am told repeatedly by my father. :biglaugh:

The turbos are super fun, but can get you into a lot of trouble.

Mine is more of a cruiser than anything else. It's fun just to sit back and cruise with the windows down and the t-tops off.

Personally, I think the 79-83 models were the last true sport touring version of the Z's. Everything afterwards became luxury.

yes, when they ended the real Z's and started making them Luxury cars, they lost their appeal to me ... We street raced a 240z that looked stock back in my college days (we had a suped up Nova) and we never made it out of 2nd gear..
found out later the owner swapped the engine out for a 12 cyl. Jag engine ... :NW: all we saw was dust  :hammer:

Nice! I nearly bought a 76 with a pretty decent 350 in it a few years ago, but the asking price was just a little too high. That thing would scoot.

It's a 370Z now by the way.

Yeah... I think they're even fuglier than the 350. Would take a lot of  to buy one.

love those Z's...my only complaint about the Z's was the rear sag they ALL seem to have.

Cannot wait to see how that one of yours comes back to life.

LETS WET SAND IT!!!!

Thanks for visiting the Cafe, come back often.  There's always something new!

I'm loving it. I missed driving a Z. There's nothing like it in my opinion - especially this era. Just enough plush but without the frills.

I still have a lot of body work I need to accomplish, including trying to fab some 3/4" metal flares in the rear and maybe 1/4" in the rear. Got a mind for some wider tires and a little drop later on. My two current front fenders are trash so they'll be the perfect practice pieces for me. Hell, the stupid thing isn't even tagged and inspected yet. I have yet to drive it over 5 miles or so at a time.

I'm going to try and get a friend to primer it again when I'm done in his booth with a gun, then we can wet-sand JP.  :drunk:
