Lake Country Foam Car Wash Sponge?
« on: January 22, 2009, 04:30:01 PM »
You know, there's really no section for anything related to washing a vehicle.  There's Pads, LSPs, Polishes, etc.  I didn't know where to put this.  Anyway, has anybody ever used this.  I've seen a lot of people raving about using this $2 Proline grout sponge from Lowes to wash their vehicles.  They claim it doesn't leave swirls, or atleast minimize them since we all know swirls are inevitable.  I had one in my hand not long ago but put it down and left.  Now I see LC makes something that looks similar but is sectioned off into cubes sort of.

Anyone try them before?  Or even the grout sponge?  At $2 for the grout sponge and $6 for the LC sponge, it's a lot more cost effective than the SM Arnold wash mitts I use now.

I gave up on sponges a while back and this year we finally had these custom made...the fingers grab the dirt and pull it away from the surface... I think sponges, even with grooves, are just dragging the dirt ...

Yeah I hear what you're saying and that's what I've always thought.  It's just hard to ignore everyone that seems to be getting great results with the gout sponges.  I figure if nothing else, it's worth a discussion.

I have to say that I am pretty skeptical of the grout sponge although I have heard of detailers using it.   A grout sponge is pretty dense if you ask me and if you happen to run it through a dirty part, even if using grit guards, I wouldn't want that back on my paint.

What I have been using is the Channel blocks that Megs use to sell but they are getting where I don't want to use them anymore.  Most of my defects are caused by drying technique sadly to say.

That PB versions looks pretty darn good to me.  Steve what are those made from?

they are microfiber ... they are also machine washable, have the softest cuff with no seem, and a very well sewn liner ...they hold a ton of soap and water and rinse easily clean.

I have one of LC's new sponged on its way to me. Once I get it, I'll give it a test and see what I think.
