Digital video camera
« on: January 19, 2009, 10:34:22 PM »
OK guys, I need a digital video camera so I can film my daughters barrel racing runs. It needs to be cheap and durable, with a decent amount of zoom. Memory space is not all that important since each run will be ~20 seconds.

Any thoughts?

I dearly loved my Panasonic PV-GS120.  Best video camera I've ever had my hands on.

Trying to put together the money now to get it repaired or replaced after my son shot me with a super soaker while filming last summer. I really really miss it.

Ours died last year so we got a JVC Everio 30HDD and I couldn't be happier with it.

Not sure about durability, I woudln't drop it or anything.  I know there are some weather resistant ones out there but you are going to pay for it.

Thanks for visiting the Cafe, come back often.  There's always something new!

I have a Sony 30 gb camera and we're very pleased with it.  The zoom is fantastic and the clarity is great...

Really though, if I were you (and I'm not), I'd seriously consider getting a HD camcorder.  While I know they're pricey and maybe more than what you want to spend, I kick myself everytime that I use ours because my wife talked me out of the HD version.

I mean, it's nice... and I definitely like it... but, HD is so cool.

While HD is definitely cool, I can't justify the price difference. It seems that the SD camcorders can be had for $250-300, and the HD models are $700+. Since we're buying a new horse soon, the camera budget is pretty low.  :pitty:
