2 G110's Die Today
« on: January 05, 2009, 03:40:57 AM »
So my G110 died today ... both of em. I got them the same exact time from ADS and me and my friend used them detailing over the summer so they have been used pretty much the exact same amount. One of them started to slow down then speed up on and off and then it just slowed down to a stop and won't turn on. Switched to the other one and about 7/8 through the car, that one did the same thing. :wtf: I am going to call Meguiars tomorrow and it is under the 1 year warranty so I should get a replacement. I wonder if they were part of a bad batch or something.  :lame:

Mine tried to die yesterday also ..

All three screws were backing out of the counterweight ..   one got to the point where it contacted the  backing plate and stopped it from turning.   I took the plate off and tightened the screws, but I haven't used it again ,.. so I don't know if it fixed it ..

I heard from Wash Solutions that the G110's are not doing well...

So much so, they bought up a few pallets of the 7424's.  Last time I was there I got to see them...strange site looking at 400 of them.

Thanks for visiting the Cafe, come back often.  There's always something new!

Gipraw you may want to look at this post from MOL, this guy had the same exact problem and did the same thing you did, but it exploded later (not like fire and stuff but just came apart) Just so you can be careful in the future

As for Meguiars Customer Service, they are Excellent. I called them today and they said they would have someone stop by at 6pm tonight at my house with 2 new G110's and they will take my old ones. I like about 25 minutes away from Meguiars Main Offices so that is pretty dang awesome  :NW:

Always nice to get 'home' service but, this shouldn't be happening...

Who is making the G110?  I know the G100 had very very few problems (ala: Porter Cable).

Something to note ..   I have had this thing since March, but I bet it doesn't have more than 10 hours total run time on it ..

pretty disappointing .  I guess we will see how Meg's handles it ..  I have never had issues with them.

Just an Update. Meguiars Has Amazing Customer Service  :NW:

I called them today, and a guy came by my house tonight with 2 brand new G110's  took my old ones, chatted for a few minutes, no questions asked. Didn't ask for a receipt or didn't test it out. A+ For Meguiars.

Gipraw one thing that the Meguiars Rep told me was that the first few generations of G110's have had some problems but they have pretty much worked them out now being on the 4th Gen. I got mine in June so it was either in the first or second gen and since you got yours in March yours probably is too.

Call the Megs customer service hotline and they'll take care of ya. You will have to ship it to them and pay for that but they will ship you a new one along with a couple pads or products of some sort to make up for your shipping loss.

I would take care of it before the warranty expires and before it blows up on your car  :hammer:

I know people criticized David B. for the UDM but they provided excellent customer service for the UDM issues. Meg's got the benefit of the doubt.

What I get out of this is that there seems to be no actual life testing of the builds. I associate the "generation" comment to specific mfg runs (Meg's probably buys some quantity say 500 or 1000 units) and on each run they have made some tweaks.  That is, there is no dedicated mfg line but use a flex mfg process.
I wonder if they do any post build qualification where they let the unit run for hours at a time to expose possible issues.  This is how you usually do design/mfg process qualification.

Usually a pad or two, maybe the new backing plate.

G110 only has a 1 year warranty?  Doesn't my G100 have a lifetime warranty??
