Why I don't group Text.

This is my top 10 why I don't group text.

Please feel free to edit and or modify.  going to publish these results to Facebook.


1. We don’t have the same friends and contacts and those contacts may not exist in my phone.   Don’t presume they do and don’t force us to add them.
2. See #1, Don’t assume I know everyone in your group text.   Your phone and contacts are yours not mine, don’t put me in awkward situations where I am forced to respond in an unnatural or unauthentic way.
3. Parents, your childhood friends, retired co workers and neighbors don’t translate to relationships that we are aware of or a part of.  See #2
4. Schedules.   I don’t know everyone’s work and personal time schedules or family commitments and thus you don’t know mine or my work times.  Blowing up my phone during the day is totally frowned upon. 
5. Having no understanding of how SMS or MMS works and how it affects recipients. 
6. Not using Facebook for group messages where it is more socially acceptable when it comes to joint friends and friends of friends.
7. Not understanding the significance of #6.  (see #5)
8. Asking me why someone else in a group text isn’t responding or asking for technical help about a group text.   (See #1,#2, #3, #4, #5, #6)
9. Getting upset at no response from #8
10. If you are retired and bored….reach out to other retired and bored friends...but leave the working stiffs to their day jobs.  We are proud of you but we are busy trying to get where you are.  The last thing we need is reminders of how awesome it is not to work 40-70 hours per week.

My boss likes to send group text messages out when we aren't working due to weather.  Problem is everyone answers at different times.  So henni answrt immediately at 5am and try to go back to sleep, my phone goes off randomly as new texts come in so I have to turn my sound off possibly missing other omportan calls or texts while I'm sleeping.

I have several group texts that I use daily.  Makes communication much easier in those instances.

- Group with the parents of all the band kids that car pool together, so it is easy for us to keep up with who is driving when , etc.

- Group with all the Boy Scout troop leaders, so everyone is included when info is needed or passed along.

and a few others along those lines.

Forgot to mention I have several group messages on Facebook.  One for each of the pages where I am an admin, and also have one for a group of buddies that has been going for almost 10 years, all surrounding OSU sports.

I just mute convos like that when I am not interested in them.

I never even knew that was an option.  I just looked and sure enough, it is.

- We used to use HipChat, and some brain surgeon decided to switch to Teams...

Lol, the engineers here use HipChat as it’s a freebie with JIRA. I interact with them, so use it too. Everyone else else now uses Stride in the company.

My new company also uses Hipchat....I prefer Slack for internal use.

Slack does not seem to be as interactive as Hipchat or Teams; there is a delay.
- We use Slack for the customer user group.
