Slight derail here but do you or have you ever used Litchi instead of DJI Go?

I'm sure I have asked that before.  I'm thinking about buying the app.  Just for the pre programmed way points.  It would be nice to map the flight so all I have to do it control the gimbal.

I saw the last attempt.  Was real glitchy.  Froze up right next to that amazon package on the porch.  Did you try it at 720p?

FB Live aside.  I think I'm going to try Litchi.  I feel like it could really make getting nice smooth footage easy.  I watched a really cool video on setting up a mission.

Yeah I was on 720, I had to connect in the house then go outside and do a hand held launch b/c it kept saying compass error then it was timing out.  Spent 20% of the battery going back and forth while hovering trying to go live.   Very frustrating.  I dumped the video...I flew for 12 min live...or so it said.

I bought Litchi yesterday.  It was on sale for $15 (usually $25).  I layed out a mission.  Just a small one around the house in case I screwed it up and had to go on a recovery mission.  Set up was fairly easy.  Just before sun down today I got it out and ran the mission.  It did what it was supposed to do but 10 seconds in or so it disconnected video feed and I was flying blind.  I also never took the time to go through the settings for proper emergency planning like setting up the RTH altitude and what not so I was afraid to hit the RTH button.  I could see it yet so I just flew it.home using Line of Sight.  I had to reconnect to Litchi entirely to get my feed back.  Second flight went flawless.  Just my frozen hands stopping me from being smooth with the vertical axis of the camera.  I don't like how it doesnt auto record to my phone and there is no way to fetch it through Litchi like there is through DJI Go's gallery.  I had to boot up and connect using DJI Go in order to download my video to my phone.  Now it is taking forever to upload my short video.  Will post when it finishes.

Here is a screen shot of my mission setup.  You can see each waypoint and what direction the drone is facing.  So the only control you have during the mission is to pan up and down.  You just have to know your surroundings (tree heights and objects that may block your line of sight during flight, etc. ). Pretty cool.

so what is the verdict?

I feel like there are things that we must do that requires hover time which takes it toll on fly time.

I knobdicked around with a few settings tonight to get a few night shots of our lights and before you knew it, I was down 30% battery life.   A little frustrating.

There's a time and a place for it.  Sometimes getting all of the controls right can be a pain.  Being able to plan it ahead of time helps smooth it all out.  Less to worry about.  It's like the drone is on rails and all you have to do is look up or down.  You can control what direction it flies, what direction the drone is facing, the altitude, the speed, etc and each way point can have different settings.  I wouldn't use it for pictures.  Other than flying out of boredom or to explore, generally I think you know what you want to capture so planning ahead is key.  I burn a lot of battery up staging and framing pictures, though.  I guess it's just part of the game.

For $15-$25, it's a relatively inexpensive tool to have in your arsenal.  I need more time with it.
