Kitzy's Random Drone Stuff
« on: March 26, 2018, 07:35:39 PM »
For the occasional random picture or video.  My attempt at limiting my thread jacking and not starting a thread for every thing I feel like sharing.

I will start it off with my first two attempts at HDR using Automatic Exposure Bracketing (AEB).

looks good, how many stops are you going to with AEB?

I'm learning here.  So bear with me.  Stops?  I can tell you I'm taking 5 images.  The only setting I saw was for 3 or 5.  I am still finding new option and settings all the time though.

Sorry, when I saw you did AEB I resorted to my prior life of being a Certified Professional Photographer.   (Not a joke)

Tom knows this all too well.

Example:

F16/120
F8/120 is one stop over

sames as
F16/120
f16/60  also 1 stop over
F16/90 would be a half stop

while as
F16/120
F22/120 is one under

When you use AEB, it takes 1 Standard shot.   then 2 stops under and 2 stops over totally 5.

EDIT....I just looked at your shutter speeds...those are crazy fast...(given b.c the shutter is almost wide open, what ISO setting?) so one thing I failed to mention is that in photography, there are main stops...then half stops and qtr stops.  Looks like DJi uses qtr stops to bracket.   With Canon, I can pick what kind of stops I want when I need to AEB.

PS, all this is also depending on ISO...if you change ISO, that is a STOP.   But it is not called that, it is called a Push or a Pull but technically it is still a stop as it relates to light.
Makes sense yes?

I was pretty sure what a stop was but given these cameras have a fixed aperture I got a little confused.

ISO remained at 100.

Mike -
Every time you double or half the time the shutter is open that is equivalent to one f stop.

So cutting the aperture in half or doubling it is a stop.

Cutting the shutter speed in half or doubling is a stop.

Adjusting the ISO (assuming in half and doubling) is effectively a stop though technically a push/pull.

Yes = you got it.

Think about it in terms of a water pipe.

Each f stop you make the pipe twice as big or make it half as big thus effecting the amount of light that the sensor sees.

Same with time the pipe stays the same size but you cut the time in half or double - i.e. twice as much or half as much water (light)

Yup....

key thing to remember on stops and not really related to AEB.

Knowing how Stops work and the effect ISO has, allows you to start playing around in M mode.   Steve knows, he had a Pentax K100.    LOL

It seems the more reading I do, the more confused I get.

If I understand it right, the EV is basically the stop.  When I leave it in auto and adjust the EV, either the ISO or the shutter speed adjust accordingly.  Half or double per 1.0 depending on the direction I go in.  And vice versa, when I switch to manual and adjust the ISO or shutter, the EV changes accordingly.  Manual just gives me the ability to lock the ISO at 100 and slow the shutter to get the same affect.  Atleast this is what I gather.

I'm having issues with noise in low light situations like sunset when shooting AEB and merging them in Photoshop. One of the things I've been wondering is should I be doing my edits on each raw image before merging them together?  My understanding is after I merge them, the file is still a raw format so I'm not sure if there's anything to gain.  I'm also not sure if I should be shooting AEB in manual or if it's even possible.  I imagine the only thing I would have control over is first image.  The remaining four images are always -2.0, -1.0, +1.0 and +2.0.

We got a few inches of snow this morning then the sun came out.  I attempted to fly but it was lining outside.  I couldn't see my screen and if I looked up to see the drone I had to squint so bad I couldn't see it anyway.

Rainy day here.  It started to partially clear this evening and a rainbow popped up.  I grabbed the drone but it faded out too much.  The low lying clouds and fog presented an opportunity.  I didn't have long because my batteries were currently in a discharge so I couldn't mess around too long.
