F150 Dealer Installed Swirl marks
« on: October 23, 2017, 11:20:13 AM »
So I have this new F150 and the paint is PERFECT with the exception of the piano black on the doors.   Has some light swirls

Not sure if those are painted, cleared or if they can be touched with anything.

Anyone have a thought on a fix for it?

Pic will follow if I can get out of my damn office and off the phone

Ok.    Got pics.

As you can see the Clear on the paint is Perfect, need a quick polish and coating...but the door pillars....yikes.

I just don't know the paint or surface on those.

I'm pretty sure that's paint. I'd probably mask the rubber, then start with something fairly light and see what happens.

I always thought it had a weird feel to it.  Almost like a shiny black plastic.  Regardless, what ever happened to least aggressive method first and go from there?

The same area on my 14 Nav are painted plastic.

I guess you could try a blue or red pad ( wax apply ) with ProPolish and very light down pressure and see if you get them out.

If it turns into a white striped mess ( took black paint off ) you could either replace them or use the body wrap pieces from American Muscle.
- That is just pre cut body wrap like 3M.  Too bad you are so far away I have enough black matte 3M to do a whole bumper left from wapping the front and read bumpers on my '06.

You can go over those with polish.  I buff them all of the time and have never had an issue.  Pain in the ass to keep up, they swirl so easily!

Thanks Justin.   My plan was to go easy on them.   Megs MF for a trial.  most of my pads i threw out so I have all this great product but no pads for them.  I have been so out of touch as of late I don't know the pads like I have in the past.

I would try a finishing pad first and then a polishing pad if needed, you aren't going to need a lot of cut.

I always use a finishing pad, and it works fine.

I'm with everyone else, the foam pad you would use for applying wax.
- Old line LC is red.

the 2nd step Megs MF is closer to a black foam LC pad than a red.

Thanks guys

I have no pads other than MF right now.

Wait I may have some 3" red and black foam.

Will take a look after the cold moves out next week
