Carnage
« on: August 15, 2016, 12:01:12 PM »
2007 GMC 2500 wok truck started making some awful noises and thunking down the interstate on the way to a job this morning.  Initial thought was the rear went out.  Noticed one wheel had discoloration and figured the emergency brake inside the rear rotor  must have come apart.  Not being positive we turned around and drove 80 or so miles back to the shop.  I pulled it apart, with a little BFH pursuasion, and everything just fell out on the floor.  Fun times...

This is exactly how it all landed after I pulled the rotor off.  Like a bomb went off.

Thebu shaped thing in my hand is a bolt.  Or was a bolt.  Sort of still has a bolt head and you can see some threads.

Holy crap, what a mess.

At least you were able to get it back to the shop, it did not jam into place and really make a mess out of things.

Is the axle on that side OK ?

It didn't appear to go beyond the rotor.  Some pieces were lodged through the dust plate on the back.  When I realized the dust plate wasn't removable with out disassembling the axle, I put everything back together minus the emergency brake, and drove it to a local shop.

The ride got real rough and a little loud for a while.  Once most of the pieces settled in, it smoothed out... Until I got to the shop and caused all kinds of havoc but putting it in reverse.  Haha.

Wow, that had to sound like the ring and pinion shearing apart after everything wore into place going forward. :wow:

Glad you got it handed off to someone to play axle removal, I never enjoyed that myself.

Wow, that is some serious carnage. Reminds me of the SuperDuty E-Brake falling apart. Only difference is I think heard the problem in St. Louis and drove it all the way back to Canada before I fixed it  :uugly:.

Ward (Mike), Don't you think you were being a little rough on the Beaver (the Chevy) there? Nice shrapnel!

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little proud of the level of F'd up I achieved.

More carnage!  Had a trailer tire blow out.  Ripped the fender right off sending it flying in to traffic on the turnpike.  Whipped the crap out of the side of the trailer until the tread finally let lose a few seconds later.  The LED marker was somehow spared.

Well, I'll be staying in a hotel all week for work so I have an entire hotel at my disposal.
