Megs MF system questions
« on: September 21, 2015, 02:59:59 PM »
Ok, guys so we all know about the Megs MF system and some use it...I do.

The question is, after step two the "finishing wax" is it ok to put Opti-Coat on top of that without giving it a wipe down?

There has to be some oil in that second step.   Maybe not but wondering if you guys are doing that.  I was thinking of using a different second step to cut down on the oils if they are present.

Also, has anyone noticed the Megs Xtra Cut pads ?

Step 2 in the MF is more of an AIO product than a straight polish.

If the aggressiveness of the MF pads is working for you, try them with the Optimum Twins instead of the junk the MF ships with.
- That kit is made for 1st timers stepping up from hand work to machine work, without setting them up for failure.

Megs MF step #2 is no where near Opticoat ready.

On the last couple I did, I used a white LC pad and M205 as the second step. I finish with Menzerna Power Lock now thanks to Doug and Tom.

I figure that I'm going to put something on after the second step, so I should make sure it will bond.

Lesson learned

I saw the black jeep today, gave it a wash down.  There is hard water sorts already on the paint (sprinkler system) and some strange haze on the drivers door.

the lesson, don't put Opti-coat over Megs step two.

Now i am going to use Megs 205 to polish the opticoat off and redo it.

If you did not go with the IPA wipe down after step 2, I would take a SWAG that the OptiCoat did not adhere to the paint and something got in behind it.
- Or it never full cured on the megs step #2

After you get done with the 205 polish, use IPA or something like Griots pre-wax cleanser before applying the OC.
- I tried Eraser back when I 1st started with OPT coating, and I did not care for it myself.

I have gotten to the point that I use the Pre-Wax Cleanser after every polish job, if I am not just doing a quick carry over LSP application before a road trip, with a more in depth detail happening after the road trip. EG : A quick polish and PL before heading out in horse fly or cicada season.

yeah I agree, and I did do an IPA wipe down.   I don't think it cured.

I am going to hit it again with 205.   prob just with a finish pad.

Then apply OC again.   The 205 will remove the OC right?

If it stayed dry for 24 - 36 hours, it should have been cured enough to withstand water on it.

205 should remove what is there, but the finish pad I don;t know if it will be aggressive enough to remove what is there.
- I think it would be enough to rough up an OC layer to add another coat past 90 days.

I had a high spot on the white truck after applying OC 2.0. A quick hit with M205 and a white LC pad took it off with little effort.

The finishing pad may prove different, but M205 should have enough cut to take off the OC or at least "rough it up".
