Motor arrived this morning! Woohoo!

Up on the stand and ready to swap over some parts.

It came with the new Rad, Torque Converter, Catch Can and remote oil filter mount.

I got a few small things done today. Still have to order a few parts and figure out plumbing for the fuel set up, so not in much of a rush.

Icon Upper A-arms installed, Front Diff fluid changed, some minor things swapped over to the new motor and a few things like wire harness and turbo's/manifolds pulled.

Oh, I also fixed my f**k up from when I did the IWE's last time. I tightened down the axle nut before I made sure the axle, IWE and hub were all lined up. Ended up breaking the IWE in two...FFS. All well, another new IWE installed with more care this time.

Diff change is pretty easy with the motor out, lol.

Collected about 1.6 liters of fluid, so pretty good.

Icon's installed. These worked out to being a hair over $500US. Couldn't pass them up (yes I have a problem when deals come up).

Old motor is looking a bit more bare

yes I have a problem when deals come up...<snip>...

Are you sure this is cheaper than a new Raptor ?

I can see why you tell your wife that, but come on you can be honest with us...

Yup! A decent Raptor up here, starts around $90k. Plus taxes, plus the stuff I would “have” to add.

That is ~ 70K USD which is about right for a non base model raptor.

Can need a thread title change to [ DIY Shelby Raptor build from a F150 ]

It is even the correct color  :redneck:

LOL, I think a new Raptor would be pretty awesome, but my path has been chosen.

I'll get a few more things done on the truck this evening.

You'll be putting more power to the ground than a raptor anyway.  Have you ever addressed the gearing?  I don't ever recall it mentioned.  What gears are in it?

I have no plans to go bigger than 34's, so I'll keep the stock 3:55's in it.

If all goes well, this truck will make around 160HP more than a Raptor (at the crank) and about 130ish more at the wheels. So this truck will not be a slouch at all. Truck should do more than 610 at the crank.

It's all a theory till it hits the Dyno though!

Not as much done today as I had hoped, but a 3 y/o and 5 inches of snow will distract you.

I pulled everything off the old motor that I will need to swap over. I also took some time to inspect the intake valves to see the effects of "not running a catch can". I gotta say, no worse than any port injection motor I have ever looked at. I do have a catch can going in with the new motor, but it's mainly for venting to ensure I don't build ANY case pressure.

Still trying to decide if I completely dissect the motor or just try to sell it at core price.

These were the worst valves. Far from clean, but not really that bad.

If you look at the above pic and compare, you can see how much these head have been opened up. the "hood" has been completely cut out. On the bench these heads can flow 90% more than stock.

Did the whole warranty thing end up not working out for the original motor?

Took it in and apparently it wasn't making enough noise to justify a tear-down. I didn't feel like paying for them to tear into it, when I can do it myself at this point.

I pulled the valve covers and a few cam caps, cams are in near perfect shape. Heads are sold, I just have to pull them. I'm thinking about turning the block into a table for the man cave in the basement. It's pretty much only worth it's weight in scrap unless someone really wanted it to re-build. I may post it and see if I get any bites.

I don't really care at this point, but if I find a broken piston skirt, I may try to raise hell with the service manager and the regional rep.

So with me saving labor on the engine swap and selling the heads, I'm about even compared to Ford giving me a new motor that I would have to sell as used. Bonus is that I can do the upgrades at the same time vs. the dealer who didn't want to touch any of them (not even the FR radiator).
