The problem is you will have to find the limitations of the built motor now.

You know the saying...

Fix it until it breaks and back off one.  You now know where the mark is for backing off one.

Dumb question time for me...  Does your motor have the VCT like the 5.4L N/A motor ?

If nothing else, you could start with a Livernois built short block.
The pro series is 5,800.00 US and the race series is 8,000.00.
- Both versions have the oil holes modified for increased flow.  :dunno:

Not a dumb question at all, yes the Eco's have VCT and are known to be a point of failure. After doing some testing, I don't think they are the problem.

Looking at working with a very well known Eco builder. He really builds "custom" engines to the spec the owner wants. Seems to be a very good guy so far and I expect to have a quote for what we discussed over the weekend and yesterday. We discussed a $12k budget for a long block as I want a new timing set and a couple of nice "options" to make this a "one and done" sort of deal.

My cousin will also have a few new truck options for me to review tomorrow, but I'm thinking that's not my preferred direction at this time.

That was my thought on the knocking sound but you already took that out of contention.

Talked with the engine builder tonight. I should have some options in cost form tomorrow. The motor will be build to support 1000hp if I pull the trigger.

New truck purchase is still on the table, but after reviewing some numbers today, it would impact a new set of wheels for the Wife this summer that we planned.

Pricing looks within reason for a built engine. Now just need to convince the Wife.

So what "we" are thinking is

Brand new, scratch build (buy the OEM parts we need instead of started with a OEM long block)
Raptor Crank
Manley H Beam Rods
Custom JE pistons. Drop the compression a bit and coat them in a snazzy ceramic coating
Custom Ring set
Ported heads (mild Port)
Upgraded valve springs with the stock valves
Upgraded Fuel pump
New water Pump
New Vacuum Pump
New Oil Pump

So basically a complete motor with no accessories, manifolds or Turbo's.

Still need final numbers and a discussion with Heather, than we can play.

I love how ever post concerning the new motor ends with the wife.  Haha.  Is she going to be on board?

I think so, we’ve talked about it and she’s Ok. She just wants to see the quote from the builder so we can plan accordingly. I’m pretty lucky and as long as I tell her about the major purchases and how I’m paying for them, she’s OK. Just had timing as we are thinking about moving and buying a bigger house.

I don't know about you but sudden unplanned purchases that cost thousands pretty much are always going to be bad timing.

Looks like I’m a go on the built motor. Just hammering out some details and it’ll be on order by the end of the week.

I picked up a replacement set of wheels for use during the down-time.
2003 Lincoln Aviator. Has 100k miles on it and seems to run and shift like it was new. It needs some serious paint correction and a good detail.

What's the turn around time on the motor once ordered?

About 4 weeks to build and a week to ship. So hoping I’ll be back running by the middle of July.

Motor ordered up and deposit sent off. I'm gonna have to do some detailing to make some money to at least cover the shipping, lol.
