...<snip>...
Looking at the logs, I could probably add a couple degrees of timing and still be safe. That would add 20-30hp.
...<snip>...

Considering altitude and the wide range of temp, is this a good thing to push that hard ?
- I guess it comes down to how the dmap for the IAT is written and if you are changing the default or only under TPS > 80%

You don't want the truck to start retarding timing under load.

The numbers don't really matter in the end as long as you feel justified based on the seat of your pants gain.  Atleast you know there's quite a bit more available to you.

Yeah, honestly I am pretty happy. To some, I'm sure the number will look low. If you look at 5400rpm and compare the HP difference, it's around 120hp. That's the area of the curve where I reallly wanted to see the improvement. Peak HP is always the "go to", but when you look at the area under the curve, it's a big jump in HP.

Roughly 150hp gain at the crank @ 5400rpm. Nothing to sneeze at. The truck doe 0-60 in 5.12 seconds.

Agreed that it's a fine line. I can see though that the base timing is low for what it can pull on this gas. The knock sensor is seeing "0" knock, even when the truck is auto-advancing 5 degrees on top of the base timing from 4000rpm on. I'll talk with the tuner as it's his "rep" on the line. I would hold nothing against him if the truck grenades after I ask him to get more aggressive. Looking at fuel supply/AFR, IAT's and how much air the Turbo's are pushing, I can see that there is some power left on the table.

If he's fine with adding 2 degrees, I'll be pretty happy I think. No more funds for the truck till next summer, so I have time to plan what I'm going to do. Still toying with the idea of a new Raptor next summer or summer of 2019. Still loving this truck, so hard to make a change.

Can I ask the dumb question.

why are you spending all this money on it, if you are considering replacing it next year or the year after ?

Because I have a problem :uugly:

It's just what I get enjoyment out of. I like tweaking and messing with stuff. I'm sure by this time, you've noticed I upgrade and mess with pretty much everything I own. I've been very good and not really touched the Edge. Some of the $$$ is lost when I go to sell, but I would be pulling a lot of stuff off of it and going back to stock.

I honestly don't know what will happen. If my cousin says they will give me a Raptor at A-Plan pricing or a sweet used one becomes available, I'm in. But, I can keep trucking along in this one too. I think if I were to keep it longer than the next couple of years, I'll likely start building a motor and trans for it.

I'm always open to the options. Life's too short to drive one truck forever. :yoda:

Talked to the Dyno guys and starting to get at least SOME understanding of why my HP number is low.

Apparently the largest factor vs. a DynoJet (I ran on a Mustang Dyno), is that the Mustang calculates in weight and air resistance of a vehicle. It's more of a "real world" simulation. So since I have a big truck, the numbers will appear much different than a car with the same power at the crank. All the numbers Full-Race and the tuners are posting are closer to DynoJet numbers.

I'm taking this all with a grain of salt until I can get on a Dynojet. I'll be calling a shop today to book an appointment with them for when I return from Vacay. The purpose is two-fold. One so I can see the comparison and two so that my tuner can see a graph from a Dyno he is familiar with.

Using a usual 10% difference to calculate what a Dynojet may be compared to my Mustang Numbers, doesn't work in my case. That percentage it based on a 3000# car (obvious weight and Aero difference).

So stay tuned folks, we will see if we can get to the bottom of this.

As I stated earlier though, if you look at percentage gains, it paints a much brighter picture.

All on 91 octane tunes

vs Tune only
17% gain in Peak HP
16% gain in Peak TQ

@ 5400rpm (vs Tune only)
32% gain in HP
33% gain in TQ

You can also compare numbers to this video. The truck was run on the same model/style of Dyno

They made 327whp and 354wtq. I beat that TQ number by almost 100 ft-lbs

Look @ 28:30

Made it to the in-laws. Had quick detour up to my Dad's place.

Left Wednesday Afternoon and arrived here last night.

2999km's or 1,868 miles so far. Truck never missed a beat.

Enjoying some beer on the deck watching the boats and planes in the river.

Hope y'all are enjoying the weekend!

Vacay was too short as always. Made it back home monday night @11:30. Left Winnipeg around 5pm the previous day.

Had a great time with friends and was able to get the Raptor Boards and steering wheel installed. Still have a grill to put in (GrillCraft MX).

Borrowed Dad's Grizzly for some riding and also got to play around with a few other Toys

Up with the Sun (usually way too early for me, lol)

Looks like a good time.  I gotta get the Grizzlies out.  Think mine needs a new CV joint so i will end up swapping in a new axle.

Put the bug shield back on. I didn't think it would grow on me, but seemed odd without it.

Not sure how I feel about the grille.  I don't hate it.  Everything else I love though.  Looks great regardless.  I feel like the grille might look awesome in person though.

To me, it really does look better in person. The camera puts a "fish eye" to it.

However, I will say that it seems a little to plain. I am going to see about getting a custom painted ford emblem and putting it in the center. Should break it up a bit and not look so "street".

I couldn't take the doors swinging wide open or only opening a few inches. Ordered up Door detents 3.0.

Should make opening the doors in the garage a non issue now!
