Electric Pressure washer...which one
« on: November 14, 2014, 06:03:37 PM »
Since I will have a garage, I figure I should get my hands on a small electric pressure washer to help with car washing, etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations, not looking to spend big bucks. just looking to cover off the following:

 - min 1800psi
 - min 1.5 GPH
 - Less than $300ish
 - different nozzles
 - Can work with a foam gun????
 - I only have a 15amp breaker for the garage, so it can't draw huge power. (garage service will be upgraded, but probably not till next year.)

I just got my sister a Karcher for Christmas last year, she really likes it.

It is the Karcher K 5.540 X-Series
2000 PSI ; 1.4 GPM
$ 250.00

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004P5POKM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you want 1.5 GPM, the Karcher line drops to 1800 PSI.

This is the newer version of my antique Karcher.   Mine works find with a foam cannon.

Thanks Steve, that was similar to the one I was considering, but yours looks better. I don't think I am going to split hairs on the GPM, 1.4 @ 2000psi would be plenty for the tasks I will ask of it.

Do you ever have any issues of it falling over? that was one of the things I was curious on with having the hose that high.

I'll ask my sister if this is an issue.
- The one I have is the Karcher "shoe box" style ones from the 90s.

She really likes it, but she is comparing it to a hose with house pressure.

I've been doing some checking online and a lot of people are complaining about the pumps failing or leaking. Maybe older versions though.

Older version of the x series ?

Mine is 15 or 20 years old and I have not had an issue.  It is pre X series ( the box style )

Dad's is older yet and the switch gave up on it, so it took it apart and wired it hot all the time, and used SOJ cord ( ~ 15' ) to a switch in a WP box and then to the plug ( ~ 10' ).

I don't know how someone would get the pump to die on one of these, unless they are running them dry for a long time or leave water in them over the winter.

Here is one of the site where I see a lot of reviews with failed/leaking pumps. looks to be just the newest one, maybe they changed the pump design somewhere along the way or maybe a bunch of people turn on the pressure washer before they turn on the water supply. :dunno:
