Water skipping with a sled, enjoy the show
« on: September 14, 2014, 09:47:48 PM »
So to make things a little more interesting, I picked up an older used sled to mess around with at my buddies Bachelor party last month. It did real good. There were 8 of us there and 7 of us sunk it...

I put together a vid of some of the GoPro footy from the weekend.

Nice,  That things does not handle too well on gravel.
- Few times it looked like you were going airborne over that huge pile of gravel.

Does it matter if the front skids are on it when doing this ?
- I ask, as you could have replaced them with wheels like Ghost rider did, when he rode one around town and on the highway, if it is just the pan that is used on the water.

In this case, we didn't really care about the ski's. They were wore out to begin with and I put one of my extra sets on it after to sell it. To make it work for water and gravel, I think you would need some sort of wheels/ski combo. Most who properly set up a sled for water will have a really small set of skis and only drive on the grass/sand/ground for very short periods of time (like 20-50ft).

I'm not sure how the sled in that video kept from overheating. They must have had a cool-down system in place. I'm sure most realize this, but liquid cooled sleds rely on snow circulating through the tunnel too keep cool (some sleds also have coolers on the bottom side of the running boards). In our case, we had water instead. Without it, a sled will over heat in less than a couple minutes of Wide open throttle.

Wow, looks like fun! On the other hand, unfortunately I'm no longer interested in buying your sled. Sorry.  :funny:

BTW: Is that one now considered "water cooled?"

Man, I saw this post this morning at like 5:30am and was running late and couldn't watch it.  I was pissed off because it just sounded like fun.  That looks like an awesome time and my kind of way to celebrate a bachelor party!

Where is this again?  Canada, eh?  I need a water hole like that to play in.

It was in a pit that we always used to go and ride quads/Dirt Bikes in Southern Manitoba. Fun place and no one to bug you. I'll have to get some of the other footy together of me messing around on a buddies YZ250 and modded King Quad 700.
