Coolant Alarm on the F250 went off today
« on: June 16, 2013, 07:58:43 PM »
About scared the hell out of me.  Was pulling the 5er home, only running 70 and when up a small hill...the Edge Insight started going crazy and blinking 228 on the coolant area....

So got it all home and safe, called Matt from (Madd Matts Diesel) and he said prob just a bad stat or fan clutch.   Gonna take it him on Wed to take a look.

Thoughts?

Don't know a lot about these trucks. And this may sound stupid, but is there anything clogging the fan shroud? Had a scare once and it turned out I managed to kill a bird on the way home. Didn't see it on the grille anywhere but it had lodged itself into my fan shroud. No idea how it made it there without becoming shreds. I guess it put just enough drag on the fan to cause some scary temps but wasn't eaten in the process.

Jason, I've started running a screen front on my truck in the summer just because the intercooler was taking a beating from road debris and getting filled with bugs decreasing the air flow. A good blow out from the back side with compressed air should blow out the dirt and bugs and they make fin combs for straightening the fins.

Sounds like fun... :dope:

I will have to pick up one of those combs, I always just went at the fins with a precision flat-head one at a time.

Make's me wonder about mine now since my truck has almost double the miles that your's does. Time to spend some money on more gauges for water and oil temp as well as fuel and oil pressure so I know what's going with the motor.

I really like having the fuel pressure gauge, just peace of mind.

Edge CTS is all you need.   That thing is awesome.   The only thing it cannot do is command the fan and tell me what RPM its running.

I just looked at the Edge CTS and I like but for that price it got me thinking about just upgrading to the SCT Livewire from Innovative and I've been wanting to update the tunes for my trucks since it got studded last October. I also like the idea of the tow tune using the turbo as an exhaust brake with some of the steep grades we have up here.

well just got back from the shop, everything checked out normal.  Fan commanded 100%.

Tech said maybe just a funny situation, hot day, long pull going fast...we may put a new stat in it.

If you pull the trigger, make sure you go for the new TS. I have a 9600 and it works OK, but is a bit bulky.
