Some good Opti Coat videos
« on: January 15, 2013, 10:29:04 PM »
I've had quite a few people ask me for some good videos on how to correctly apply Opti Coat.  I will checking out Youtube and ran across some pretty decent videos and figured this would help some people out.

Here are a few Youtube videos with an explanation of Opti Coat and how to correctly apply it.............

Also, if you are wanting to order some.......... :whisp:  You can find it here!  http://stores.theragshack.com/-strse-141/Optimum-Opti-Coat-2.0/Detail.bok

Thanks for posting Justin.

Just one question, in the video, he seems to be using a lot of product after priming the pad.

The only thing really have to compare against are other videos and written instructions where they say to only use a couple of drops per panel.

Thoughts?

I also tend to add more product like on the video, I always make sure that I'm getting as good coverage as possible.  Optimum is no recommending using 10cc for one vehicle, so going by that, you are going to use some more than originally suggested.

Great info. I have to wait till spring for it to warm up before I do the Edge.

Is it OK to put a was or sealant on top of Opti-Coat? or pointless?

I wouldn't even bother putting on a sealant or wax because it won't bond very well. I apply either optimum spray wax or instant Detailer every so often if I want some extra gloss.

From what I read by the Dr G over at Optimum, 2 things.

1. what Justin pointed out, it will not bond very well due to the bonding inhibiting factors that opticoat 2.0 has ( just like dirt and other stuff does not stick very well to it ).

2. In the time the topper is on the opticoat, the surface will take on the characteristics of what is on the opticoat, so this could reduce the antibond feature of opticoat for an amount of time.

I go with ONR at the QD ratio for a quick touch up.  The ONR @ QD ratio turns out nice, gives the Opticoat a nice pop when done, and it is quick, and very little is left behind on the coating to work against the function of it.  This is the major reason I went OC 2.0 on the roof of the cab of the truck, the cap and the tailgate, so I did not have to do anything to it to have it look nice.

Over at the "A site", there is a lot of supposition on topping paint coatings, and what is best.
- That is a great place for patient zero for internet rumors on products all too often.
They cannot leave a paint surface alone, so they continually play with what to do next.
Let's see, what is the best topper for a paint coating... Umm none
- That is one of the purposes of a paint coating, someone that wants a great looking vehicle. with very little maintenance, just correct washing and it turns out.
