Hey J. The reason you probably haven't seen 30x9.5 or 31x10.5 or whatever is because most 16"+ wheels have metric sizes. For some reason 15" seems to be the usual "off-road" wheel size for older vehicles, and I guess it's just easier for red necks to pick out the tire size by inches than figure out the weird metric system.

Do keep an eye on Rock Auto. I buy a lot of parts from them. Word to the wise though, try to avoid the no-name brands or ones you know are Chinese unless it's a no-fail part. But for instance, I can get all new Moog tie-rods for my truck for about 50$. That's about how much a new center link from Autozone would cost me. On the other hand, I can buy a Chinese starter for 37$, or an Autozone branded one with a warranty for 45$. Just gotta watch out and use your best judgement.

thanks Tony that is a very good explanation.

I will check on rock auto...I need to get new front socks like ASAP.

The rears I am going to do after I get the lift.  I also would feel better with new end links and new busshings on the sways.   Most of that I an do myself.

The timing belt is another story...I will need some supervision on that one.

Timing belts aren't too difficult but they're extremely easy to mess up. If you think you can do it, I would. But if you've got the money, might as well get it done. I avoid belts like the plague. Chains I don't mind so much.

I have seen some really good youtubes on this engine...the question I have is, the timing marks are obvious, looks lke the trick is the right tension...the question is...how do you keep it from moving while you are working on it or is that even an issue?

It shouldn't be an issue as long as you're careful not to move the pullies when you put the belt on.

Ordered a few things from Rockauto today.

picked up a few things tonight

tonight was front sway bar bushings and front end links.  I can tell you that make a drastic difference.
New tire was also put on today, I was this |    | to getting all new wheels and tires...glad I didn't do it.

Friday is Alignment day and torsion bar adjustment.   Rear sway end links and picking up new rancho shocks
Sunday is have shaft day...replaceing both left and right sides and installing shocks.
Lift kit ordered
timing belt kit ordered as well

Paint restoration is a few weeks out.

I did manage to vac out the interior and clean it, Folex a few spots and dressed the dash and all plastic inside...and treated the leather ....may get a few more years out of it yet.

Ok carry on

I was going to say if you are getting all new tires I'll come pick up the old 30s if they are above the wear bars.

Quick update

Got new ranchos...went with the 5000's over the 9000's for cost savings.   Got alignment right but it still pulls a little to the right but very so slighly and it won't tear up tires.

Got the torsion bars adjusted...raised the front about 1.5 inches.   Makes me think I don't need a lift kit now.

So Monday I am biteing the bullet...taking it to my shop and having them diagnois the injector mis fire...and find the one that is jacked up and replace me...they quoted me 250 to do that...I said done.

So then all that will be left is:
Half shafts, left and right
Sway bushings and end links rear
timing belt and water pump
paint restoration

Then put it on Craigslist for 4k   LOL   just kidding

Nice man. I need some new shocks too.. Trying to decide on lift first.

with the new shocks and torsions bars redone...my rear is 15.5 and the front is 15.   So I think I am good for no lift for now.

We'll see.   I gotta get it where I can drive it 3 hours to the ranch and test it by taking it up to Red Peak...a washed out road with some switch backs.

We'll see how it goes. By this time next week I sure hope to have the injector solved...and possibly the new timing belt on.

Only then do I feel comfortable driving it on the highway for that distance.

Mostly due to the fact that when I travel, I carry my AR, my 30/30 or 30.06 and my side arm   Kind of feels odd hitch hiking and tell the guy..."yeah, I am not going to kill ya but if you mess with me...I will"    LOL

I can't get over the shape the bottom side of that thing is in. I'll have to get you some pics of what stuff looks like up here. FOr instance, my 2010 F-150 looks 100 times worse than that - and I take care of it. You guys don't know how lucky you have it to be without road salt.

They use road salt in Kansas? Can't be nearly as much as we use up here.
