Bare Foot water skiing
« on: July 16, 2012, 03:31:26 PM »
Hi All, looking at Tom's detail on his boat made me think of the last time I was on the water last month.

Here is a vid of my Dad's buddy who has been barefooting for 20 years. He is really good. He did 3 more runs of this length before calling it quits which is a extremely long time to bare foot (also the water wasn't even 50 degrees)

The boat following is my dads '88 20ft Check mate with a '86 or '87 250 Merc on the back.

Man, my feet hurt just looking at that! Of course 50 degree water might numb everything down a bit.  :redneck:

For those of you not familar with just how hard water can be, the APBA once told us at a race that the reason we were all required to spend so much money on special life vests was that "you can roller skate on water at 60 MPH." Yup, it's that hard.

A co-worker that was in the Navy in the 70s ( Eisenhower ) said when it is man overboard off the top deck, they are generally expecting the worst on the recovery.

50' fall to water, he said "usually looks like they hit concrete"

If they were in good size waves ( storm ), it could be ~ 75' to the bottom of a swell from the top deck.

I just don't get it, he has "water shoes" that he was trying to temp me to try out, but there was no way I was getting in that cold ass water.

It is really impressive, you sure have to pull him at a good speed to keep him up.

You generally start out with the water shoes and a pole that sticks out the side of the boat. Still really hard, no thank you.
