I need a few things
« on: July 13, 2012, 10:07:37 AM »
So I finally unpacked all my detailing goodies and took some inventory. I need a few things and thought Id come to you guys for help since I've been out of it so long.

Im on a tight budget but want to get all this ordered in the next week.

Im nearly out of APC+. Is this still good stuff or are there better options?

Im planning to use 105 and pro polish, then seal with C845. The clear on my rabbit is real tough, so I thought of getting something a bit tougher to do my corrective work. Are there any relatively cheap products out there for this app?

Since UQD isn't really available anymore, any good cheap QDs for clay and general purposes? Edit: I'm not sure it was called UQD. RR knows what I'm talking about. The stuff we can now get from Tony/Barry at wash solutions in an Xtreem bottle.

Lastly,  only have a handful of good detailing towels left. Can anybody recommend some good towels for claying, product removal and QD/ONR type use? Im not opposed to multiple types. Probably need 2 dozen or so.

Thanks guys!

Edit: Pic. Ignore the armorall and stuff. Most of it was gifted to me.

Tony,

Mixed at the proper ratio, Optimum No Rinse works great as a Clay Lube. That way you'd kill two birds with one stone.

That's a good point. What's the proper ratio? Or is it on the bottle?

Off the top of my head, I don't remember. JP or Doug will know though.

I also use ONR at the QD / watererless wash ratio ( 15 oz water to 1 oz ONR ) with good results.

I actually like it better than Opti Clean ( 3:1 ratio from the gal jug ).
ONR does well as a QD on Opti Coat surfaces ( only thing I use on the OC applications ) and as a QD on Opti Seal / Optimum Car wax applications.

ONR as clay lube is 2 oz per gallon ( vs 1 oz per gallon for rinseless wash ) or 0.5 oz per 32 oz of water.

Thanks scully.

Can anybody recommend some decent towels? ADS has 12 packs of megs standard towels for 12$. This is what I used in the past.

Rick has a 12 pack of "premium" MF towels for 12.00, did not see a 12 pack of Megs branded towels.

I use this towel for removing compound and polish, and move on to the PB DMTs or Mega Plush for removing the final polish step.

For QD work or for ONR media ( if you are not using the grout sponge ) the Sag Rags that Justin has are great.  They put the Chem Guys shaggy Fur balls to shame ( those have long nap, but look to be 12 stands per square inch, you can see through them ).
I did a write up on them in the MF products sub forum.
I use them when I am doing a QD wipe down.
I quarter fold, and spray the folded edge a few times, and drag that on the QD sprayed down paint holding the other end.  This is instead of the hose down the paint with QD, and press like a mad man technique I see quite a few people use.

Thanks again Scully. You're right about the ADS towels, they're not megs branded. My bad.

I use a lot if the Super Fly towels from Obsessive these days. Good towel and long lasting.   I use Rick's bulk towels for cleaning.

I use the "bulk" ADS MF's for wheels, door jams, glass etc...but like Gip stated, I use the Superflys for the bulk of my work...I also use the "shag" for LSP removal.

MF's are kind of personal, I personally think the Megs brand are junk.  I use yellow for wheels, green for glass and jams, and blue are just my "shop like towels"

The Red Superflys are for paint only.   I never mix them.

Thanks for visiting the Cafe, come back often.  There's always something new!
