Any one ever seen this - Makita BO6040??

Looks like a cross between a PC and Flex to me.... Still doesn't look like it will do true rotary polishing though. Would you guys say its just like the Flex, but you can turn the forced rotation off?

The terminology ever one uses seems to be a little different. I put polishers and buffers into 3 categories, but some people use the term DA loosely I think...

PC7424/G110 - Orbital polisher
Flex - True DA motion
9227c/DW849 - Rotary buffer

I would have to compare the Makita tool to the Porter Cable 7424. It looks relativley close in size and power to the PC tool looking at the tools side by side. The only difference that I see is the RPM"s othe than that I would say they are identical tools.

Size and power may be similar, but that Makita does have the option of forced rotation like a rotary, or Flex (basically true dual-action).

This is the first I've even seen or heard about it though, so I'm guessing it isn't anything special....

I saw that but I dont know how well it would work because everything I have seen about the flex is that it has more Umph than the PC. I guess it would be nice if some one here had one to do a side by side running test of the PC, Flex, and the Makita.

Great point.

If it is close in power to the PC, then introducing a forced rotation would just bog this thing down even more I would say.

Cool machine, options wise, but probably not a great fit for any of us.... When I first saw it I thought you could go from DA to true rotary, now that would have taken some engineering!

Keep in mind that Makita makes a true Rotary as well...

I don't know about this particular machine -- I have read a bit about it -- but, I think the comparison, thusfar is fair... it's probably more of a PC-type power machine.

I know I am going to pick one up in the spring when the snow melts. I have a couple of months of detailing before the snow gets here and then its all she wrote for nine months.  :taz:
