Considering New Wheels
« on: June 23, 2011, 05:10:34 PM »
I've been considering getting new wheels for my car and was thinking of these in matte black:

It just dawned on me that matte black might not be very easy to care for.  Would these just need normal polishing and waxing like the rest of the vehicle?  Also, I drive around 70 miles round trip for work each day.  Do you think the finish on the rims will hold up, or am I just asking for chips in the paint?

My understanding for matte black is that it can't really be polished or waxed.  How well they hold up will probably be determined by the quality to which they're built.

Hmm, that might be an expensive gamble if they don't hold up well.

They should have a flat clear coat on them. Also, Swissvax makes a wax special for matte finishes. Only one I've seen. http://www.swissvax.ca/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=swissvax&Product_Code=SE1015117&Category_Code=WAXES

My friend has flat-black "Rockstars" on his truck, they have held up well over the last 2 years, but you can see marks where they have been rubbed by something at one point or another.

I personally wouldn't want the headache of the maintenance and how fussy you have to be with them.

It's becoming a tough decision!  Maybe I'll start looking for something in a gun-metal color instead.  Thanks!
