Installed the tune in the SHO today
« on: May 14, 2011, 08:21:58 PM »
Went out first thing this morning to make three baseline runs.

Came back, and installed the 93 octane tune for the SHO.

Drove it around town for about 30 minutes, then went and made three more runs.

Several things I noticed immediately.  Instant throttle response and much smoother shifting.  Much stronger pull off the line.

So. here are the numbers:  These are average numbers for each set of three runs.

Pre tune:

0-10 mph  1.33 sec
0-60 mph  6.42 sec

60'  2.98 sec @ 27.1 mph
330'  6.78 sec @ 60.7 mph

Post tune:

0-10 mph 0.98 sec
0-60 mph 5.69 sec

60' 2.60 sec @ 29.5 mph
330'  6.32 sec @ 61.7 mph

I am very pleased with this tune so far, and I am anxious to see how it settles in over the next few days/weeks.

I also have a 91 octane tune for when I am forced to leave the state of Texas and can't get good gas.

I think it is somewhere between 50 and 80 additional HP   I need to get a boost gauge so I can see how much more boost it is running, or do some data logging.

Nice improvement Gip, are you going to run a wide band O2 sensor with a gauge to make sure your not runnning it to lean as well as a boost gauge.?

No. I am not worried about it. This tune has a ton of development into it so far and has not shown any issues with lean conditions. The tune I am currently running is not very aggressive. Most of the benefits I am seeing are in the torque management and shift handling areas, along with throttle response.

At some point I want to throw the race tune in it, just to see how much more there is in this motor. But that will wait a bit.

Ok I didn't know what kind or R&D went into the tunes because of that engine being as new as it is. I am very interested in how this goes for you because my wife is going to be due for a newer car in a year or two and I am torn between the SHO and a VW TDI of some sort for her.

There are a ton of guys running this tune, some for almost a year.  It is a Livernois Motorsporta tune.  They have stage 2, stage 3, and stage 4 tunes.  I am just running the stage 2.

I am interestedto see how it runs on it's morning commute.

I love my SHO. It is an incredible car.

Very cool Gip, I am very interested to hear how it does with MPG and commuter type driving. I know in the week that I have had a tune in my truck I am extremely impressed how it performs in my DD routine and what I am getting in MPG's right now. My last tank of diesel had 340 miles on it and most of that driving was in town and I used to get 12.5 in town and now I am getting 16 and needless to say I am ecstatic at gaining 3.5 MPG in town.

Did another 3 run average this afternoon, with traction control turned off.

0-10 mph 0.93 sec
0-60 mph 5.29 sec

60' 2.51 sec @ 30.1 mph
330'  6.09 sec @ 63.6 mph

that is launching from a complete idle.

Wow! That is a pretty impressive difference. I love the SHO's. Maybe one day I can pick up a nice used one.

I see this Black one at the farmers market I go to all the time.  It's always spotless clean parked in the dirt/gravel parking lot....cant be more than a few months old but it's a beautiful Ford car.  I cant get out of the trucks...maybe 1 day when I cant climb up anymore....naaaa I will just drop it.
Still it looks very well made.

I forget why but there is some reason/excuse why they leave the slop in the throttle program when vehicles are new then a few years later they come out with a update to correct the bad shifting and lagging throttle response.
You can make money or you can make excuses but you can't do both.
