I've heard of guys running a shop vac to the filter after oiling them to somewhat simulate the engine and suck out and of the excess oil before reinstalling.  Sure can't hurt.

Just run the dry filter. Saves the oil hassle, works just as well.

I say ditto with the group on the aftermarket intake.  IMHO you would need to do the intake, exhaust and a tune to make it worth your while.
Mfgs restrict intake and exhaust mostly for noise control.  If you do 1 and not the other it may breathe a bit better but they should be done together if you want the engine to pump more air efficiently....then comes the tune to make up for the air/fuel change.
Then all is louder for better or worse.
You can make money or you can make excuses but you can't do both.
