Limestone dust
« on: May 10, 2011, 01:58:38 PM »
Hi,

I was at work today when some people came and sprayed lime all over the parking lot and grass and now over half the employees vehicles are covered in it including mine. I was wondering if it will hurt the car paint at all?? And would it be okay if I just went home and washed the car to get it off???

Last time I checked, lime wasn't a neutral pH, so I wouldn't leave it on there for long. I'd suggest washing it ASAP - but I'd also suggest using lots of water and lots of a proper car wash soap to float as much off as possible. (Do you have a Gilmore Foam Gun by chance?) What you don't want to do it rub the surface too hard and cause the lime to scratch your paint. And, since we're not talking a pH of 7 here, make sure you rinse extra well to dillute and neutralize any remaining lime.

rinse off as much as possible, with as much water as possible.  I usually have the best luck with water straight out of the end of the hose, no nozzle or gun.  Then wash it with a good wash mitt with tons of nap.  Do not use a sponge of any type.

you will be fine.  biggest concern in that short of time would be it getting wet, but not cleaned.

I would suggest once you get it clean, to give it a good wax, just to make sure it is protected.

Ive got about a 20min drive home so im hoping that most of it will blow off. Ill make sure to rinse it down and wash it and rinse about 2-3 times just to make sure I get it off. Dont have anything to wax right now, have to get the front painted thursday where somebody scratched the front before I even had the keys in hand
