Looking at a neW exhaust
« on: March 27, 2011, 07:14:34 PM »
I've got a di/do magna flow with the built in x-pipe. Currently ran out behind the rear tire. How much louder would it be if I ran them out in front of the tire instead?

Do you want it louder?  If it's the same muffler you probably won't notice much of a difference at all.  If you want it louder, a SI/SO with a smaller muffler will be better.

I think you'll be fine then.  It might be a tiny bit louder just because it'll be that much closer but otherwise, it should remain pretty much the same.  Wheel and tire may get dirtier faster.

Well with the tips ran where they are they are the devil to keep clean so I'm hoping if I move them to in front of the tire, they won't be as bad to keep clean. I'll post pics whatever I decide to do. Thanks!

Yeah I had that issue with my Expedition.  The tip behind the tire collected a lot of crud.  I was just going to hack the majority of the piping off after the muffler, probably right after the hanger so the hanger was still useful and didn't move excessively.  Just never got around to it.  I never really did care about seeing the tips on a truck anyway.

Remember, Ford learned a hard lesson with the 1997 F-150 and running the tip out in front of the RR wheel. Lots of folks (like me) complained about all sorts of nasties being deposited on our wheels from that location. They actually replaced my system with a '98 system that exoted behind the wheel under warranty.
