Fair enough.  It really comes down to looks.  I don't know how much you know but assuming you know nothing...

255/70-18 ---- 255 is the width in mm, 70 is sidewall height and is actually 70% of the width (in this case, 70% of 255), and 18 is obviously the wheels size.

That being said, if you went to a 265 (just a bit wider) you could make the second number a 65 and the overall size of the tire would be 1/4" shorter.  http://www.tiresizecalculator.info/ for comparing sizes.

I assume your wheels are 7.5" wide.  That said, 275 is going to be as wide as you can safely go.  275/65 is almost identical in overall diameter as a 255/70, it's just wider.  Just something else to check out.  They may even be more expensive by a little bit but they may also offer different sizes or brands that weren't available in the other size.  You never know.

Mike thanks for this, sorry I am late to respond.  I did check some altreante sizes out, wow, talk about a supply and demand pricing model.  I saw up to 40 bucks difference in tire sizes.

Now I am looking at the Firestone Destination A/T's at 147.00 per tire size 255/70/18 , bad news is that they are not in stock until 12/03

Guess it is back to the General Grabbers.

So JP, did you put some tires on this bad boy or are we allowing the wife to practice hydroplaning on the way back and forth to the market?

2S...not yet, just heard a commercial on the radio, NTB is offering buy ANY 2 tires and get 2 free.  Starts on Friday so I may end up getting a little better set, who knows, going to stop by there after my meetings today.   Spent all day with the boss in meetings yesterday, repeating today.

My experience with that kind of sale is that you really don't save as much as they make it sound like. They just mark the price on the first two way up so they can mark the other two down. I just buy from Tire Rack these days. We have a wholesale account with them at the marina. Good luck though!

You're right....I got the well sir, we don't offer the Geolander in that size under the sale but you can get the Michelin LTS MX's for 249.0 each and you get two free, but you must also purchase a lifetime alignment package.

I said, no thanks I will just got across the street and buy from Discount who will match TireRacks price.

Haha.  What's tomorrows plan?

I probably would have went with the Desitnations.  BFGoodrich tires are pretty average.  While you can definitely do better, you can't really go wrong with them either.
