I think it's time to sell the F-150
« on: May 19, 2010, 12:35:46 PM »
So I've had my 2000 stepside for 9 years this July. I think it's time to move on. The question really is, should I replace it with another truck? Since I moved to Vancouver, I don't really need a truck and it sits a lot lately. I have already pulled the Procharger and sold it, cleaned it right out and pulled all my Amps and put in a cheaper deck.

I'm all over the place with thoughts of a replacement, but I can find all these vehicles for roughly the same price range. Here's what I'm thinking:

If I go with another truck:
2007 Harley Crew cab
2006-2007 Lincoln Mark LT
2001-2004 Lightning
2006+ Toyota Tacoma Crew Cab TRD

If I go Car:
2002-2004 BMW M3
2006-2007 BMW 335i coupe
1999-2004 Corvette Z06
2008 Subaru WRX Hatch
2005-2007 WRX STI

So any opinions??? :lurk"

The first 3 car option are very nice. Lightnings are a lot of fun also and the Harley is sweet.

07 STi, Jesus those things are BEAUTIFUL.

293 hp, with couple mods you're easily into the 320's....running 10's.

I do like Subie's, my buddies in the interior of BC do a lot of rally's and I do some volunteer work for them. The problem is, I would have a hard time NOT modifying it. I am still putting my wife through university and really just want to buy something I can drive as is. I know I would be back into Autocross too, which anyone knows gets expensive fast.

Same issue comes up with the lightning, how do you not modify it. I guess it's the cheapest of all the options and I would have some room for minor stuff.

I do like the idea of the Harley, I only like the '07 though, not a fan of the '08 interior. I could live with it just as it is and save up for a blower or just drive it until I can afford what I really, really want...a Raptor.

I'm a big fan of the Fords you have listed.

Just curious - have you considered one of these?

I'm partial to Harley trucks (kind of looking for one myself) so of course I would suggest that or a Z06. However, if it's your primary car then scratch the Vette. My buddy has a one off '08 KR500 he's selling.

You're only here for a little while, do it while you can.

I do like the GT500, but around here, they are a little over budget. My DD is a loaded 2004 Mazda6, so the truck replacement is more of a "fun" vehicle that would be used for road trips here and there and used for me to go to work if my wife needs the Mazda for anything. I replaced my '95 Mustang GT Convertible with the Mazda to have a "practical" DD, but now I got the itch for something fun again.

I do drive in the mountains in the winter and that's probably the main reason for pointing towards something that is AWD or 4x4.

Friend has one with about 1200 under the hood in mods, runs a high 10. He knows the car like the back of his hand, so I guess that helps on the track also.

Get the Subaru though man, I absolutely love AWD vehicles. Plus they're soooooooo beautiful.

I love the 335.  Not a fan of STis (or any Imprezas).  The styling just doesn't sing to me.  And everytime I see one I expect some kid to be driving it.  How about an S4?  Personally I would love an S5 but since I'm not paid like that, it won't happen.

Well. There's a problem somewhere.

He's shown me two papers, one's a dyno sheet. 318 hp. The other is from a local track, showing that his 07 Sti' ran a 10.91. Precision tuned from New Jersey, completely rebuilt turbo, and plenty of other mods that totaled $1,931. Keep in mind his father owns a local body shop that often competes in plenty of superstock/stock/pro races locally and nationally. So he's getting some of this stuff, dirt cheap. Only thing that wasn't installed himself was the mudflaps, and I'm not sure why he didn't do those himself.

It's an 08, a stock difference of 12 or so HP, sorry man. Didn't even realize until I seen the other STi's.

Here's the badboy itself.

I know what you're saying about the Subie's, but I really like the concept of fun and some practicality, and I can drift the crap out of them pretty good! I like to think I'm still a young sometimes, I do drive a big shiney bright red truck :redneck:

The S4 is a pretty awesome car too, but I can't find one in the price range I was looking at. When I was looking for the Mazda 6, I test drove a couple A3's, and they are very, very nice. It was the service of them that put me off. I have a good friend who's a tech at a local BMW, pretty much the only reason I think I could keep up the maintenance on my income.

Also on a side note, I don't know his 1/4mile times, but I know currently that one of the guys that run the subie group in Kelowna is 6hp short of 500, he has a massive turbo running 32psi and a complete cosworth(sp?) motor from Europe. I heard it's nuts. I will see if I can find a post on it.

possible your friend showed you an 1/8 mile slip...this guy dynoed at 570 HP, 573 TQ...about double the hp... :dunno:

a subie site one guy ask other what it takes to get a 10 sec wrx/sti

http://www.iwsti.com/forums/ecu-tuning-performance-electronics/180822-building-10-second-car.html

replies: "Plan to spend a couple months reviewing other peoples setups that are hitting 500whp or more. Plan to spend around $20k"

by another "I would estimate around $15-25k or more..."

wrx/sti are fast cars for the money and for what they are....sporty compact rally inspired, awd, love or hate styling and they are good daily drivers...it would be my pick of the lot listed (i already have the 07 hd)
