Safe Tire Cleaner?
« on: March 24, 2010, 06:56:04 AM »
Guys, what do you recommend to dissolve brake dust and grime off of tires when chrome rims are present?  I finally put on my ceramic pads in the front of my F150, which should eliminate most of the dust issue; however, I still have dust all over my tires, and scrubbing with soap and water isn't getting it all.  I used to use Westley's with my factory rims and never had any problems.  Now I have aftermarket chromes and I"m a little hesitant to use it around them.  Any suggestions?  APC+?  Westley's still?  Thanks in advance.

Optimum Power Clean does an excellent job of cleaning and is safe on chrome, I use this a lot.  It is a step above most apc's.

Our APC dilute 15:1 will clean the tires easily and it is also safe on the chrome rims   also at that dilution you can use it for interior use also on vinyl, leather, upholstery & carpet too

Seriously dilute APC is the way to go.  DO NOT go the Westley's route -- that stuff can chew on metal in a jiffy; especially uncoated Chrome rims.

Actually, I think Rock meant uncoated ALUMINUM rims.

Responses much appreciated guys.  When we talk APC, are we talking a specific brand?  What does Rick sell? That's where I'll end up buying.  I've got a hefty order to make when I finally get off the road and get home.

Rick sells Meguiars APC, APC+ (this version doesn't foam so you can use it in extractors and shampooers) and Optimum Power Clean.  In my opinion, Optimum Power Clean is the stronger and probably safer (though all three are pretty safe) of the three but it comes at a higher price.

Thanks.  I might as well go with the Optimum since I'll be trying out Opti-Seal as well.  Plan to order those along with a few other items very soon.  Thanks again for the help guys, as always.

RP, what do you consider to be seriously diluted APC?

Steve, 15:1 is pretty diluted.  I don't see that recommended often.  Is that just because its safer on the surrounding areas such as the wheels and paint should you get it on but still effective at cleaning the tires or does it just work better at that ratio?  Assume one doesn't care about conserving product.  Is there any benefit to going with a stronger mix?
