My Metal Rx has more cleaners than most metal polishes out there.  I've removed a lot of stuff with the Rx that didn't come off with the over the counter products like Mothers and Meguiars.  The Metal Rx also leaves a layer of protection behind. Optimum Metal Polish is another excellent choice, but doesn't have the cleaning ability of the Rx, but it does leave an awesome shine behind.  I also recommend putting on Optimum Opti Seal for that extra durability.  I use it on wheels all of the time and the brake dust will come off with ease when you are ready to wash them.

Nice looking wheels! A definite PITA the clean and / or polish though. Good luck!

Nice wheels!
Once you get them cleaned and protected properly keeping them up should be easier.  Does that AR wax have any synthetics in it or is it just plain wax?
As has been said before, synthetic products will last longer in most applications.

An even cheaper route would be to use NXT 2.0 as a final LSP after polishing but nothing is going to beat the ease of Opti-Seal or Optimum Car Wax.
You can make money or you can make excuses but you can't do both.
