Polishing and Compounding Rule of Thumb...
« on: January 14, 2010, 02:04:50 PM »
After much reading I assumed that you polish fast (higher rpms) and compound slow.  Now after more reading I think I have it backwards and you polish slow and compound fast?  Except with M105 which will not work the product and will flash and dry too quickly.

Which is the proper rule of thumb or are there any rules and it just depends on the product?
You can make money or you can make excuses but you can't do both.

Just wondering, look at your bottle of 105....Does it say DA Approved?

So what is the general rule?

Polish slow?
Compound fast?

Which is it?

I always Compound fast and then slow down to burnish the paint when I'm finishing.

That depends on the condition, the pad and the product.

Mine does not say DA approved. Is the newer version more user friendly??

It has a longer working time.

I prefer the old version

That depends on the condition, the pad and the product.
My paint was hammered.
When I first got my G110 I started slow and finished fast with compounds and polish...except for M105.  Maybe it's my climate but it used to dry out quickly using higher speeds.  Then I started mixing it with Poli-Seal, Optimum Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Compound 2 and it doesn't dust much and has an indefinite working time.

Now my paint is decent to pretty good so I dont need aggressive methods anymore so this spring I want to end up trying this burnish technique but after looking at finishes here im trying to refine my techniques.
You can make money or you can make excuses but you can't do both.
