Polished lip
« on: November 13, 2009, 02:25:37 PM »
Hey guys, long time no post!!!

I have a set of black Boss 313 22" wheels with a polished lip.

What is the best way to get the polished lip back up to par? Mine are not looking their best right now.

Thanks a ton!!!

Without knowing whether or not the polished lip is coated I would play it safe and use something like Poorboy's Professional Polish.  If you know for sure they're raw then I would use Optimum Metal Polish or Metal Rx as both leave a protective coating behind.

Thanks for the reply.

I did find this polish on the Boss Motorsports website.

http://www.bossmotorsports.com/protectant/index.html

I think I'll shoot them an email to verify what finish I have.

I don't know anything about those.  Sorry.

OK, got this response from Boss Motorsports about the lip finish on my Boss 313's:

this is a superfinished lip and does need to be polished to get the shine back. please see our site for a product that will work for you.

get the polish to get the shine back

I'm  assuming any metal polish will work fine.

It sounds like the lip isn't coated and any metal polish should work. Do a small test spot to be sure and if your applicator turns black, they aren't coated.

Thanks, man. I'll give that a try.

No problem. Another thing to keep in mind if the lip isn't coated is to be careful of wheel cleaners. Some of them don't play well with uncoated aluminum.

Thanks for the tip. I only use Meguiars gold class on my truck, and use the same on my wheels. I've seen what wheel cleaner does to polished wheels too.

You should see what Meg's Super Degreaser does to a polished wheel.  In my defense it wasn't my intention to get it on the wheel.

Nothing like giving yourself more work, huh.
