A little problem with the truck
« on: November 03, 2009, 09:04:08 PM »

It's going in to the dealer tomorrow. They came on while coming home from Oklahoma with my daughters new horse. Only one horse in the trailer, so the load was only ~6500lbs. Strange.

Interesting...disconnect your battery or batteries then turn on your lights for 2 min....then turn off the lights, plug the battery back up.

Could be a fluke MAF sensor.

The truck is definitely going to the dealer tomorrow. I might try to clear the lights myself, but somethings not right. It's not shifting the way it should. It won't use any gear higher than 3rd right now, which really limits speed.

It's the V10 gasser right?  I wouldn't expect much better mileage out of it towing.  As for the light, I don't know.  I'd get it checked to be safe.  Did it run differently?

I wouldn't clear anything. You might be erasing evidence the dealer needs to properly diagnose the problem - which is under warranty anyway. I'm sure it will all work out well for you though.

Guys, the poor mileage is due to running 3k RPMs at only 40mph. The V10 isn't fuel efficient at those engine speeds. It usually gets 9-10 mpg fully loaded, and around 13 in town empty.

Anyways, it's at the dealer now and I'm driving an '08 F150 Crew as a loaner. Hopefully they will get it figured out quickly.

Do the V10's suffer from he same Radiator issues the PSD's does?

I got a little update Friday. When they tore into the tranny to replace the solenoid, they found metal shavings. On Monday they're gonna pull the tranny to attempt to find the source of the shavings.

RR, I'm not aware of any radiator issues with the V10 trucks.

Make sure they replace everything that got contaminated with the shavings - all the way up to the cooler up in front. Good luck!

Got an update from the dealer this afternoon. They found lots of metal shavings and also clutch material throughout the tranny. Right now they are waiting on approval from Ford for a complete replacement.

Needless to say, this has me more than slightly concerned.

Complete replacement of what?  The truck or the tranny?
