Welp, New 7424XP handle stripped
« on: July 13, 2009, 12:16:09 PM »
I was about 2 panels into a full polish of the F150, (skipped the ranger and wife's Expy and went straight to mine) and the housing threads on the left side of the unit stripped out. It still threads fine on the right side. When I first got it, the left side threads never seemed to get tight, handles always felt a little loose, so I figure the threads were overcut from the factory.
I had to finish the whole detail with the handle on the right side, backwards for the way I want to work. I have a call into ADS to see how to exchange.

On a bright note, just have to do a LSP coat to the rig.. photos sometime this week. Got rid of all the swirl marks, still have some work to do in the future for the heaveir scratches, but they melt away after the LSP.

I had the exact same problem with my regular old 7424. The handle stripped out. This required having the entire motor housing replaced - out of warranty of course. I think it ran me almost $80.00 to get it fixed. Going without the handle is an old trick to help you feel what the machine is doing better. It actually works quite well - causing me to question my repair.

I removed my handle the first time I used my 7424 and never looked back.

hmm I'll have to give it a go without the handle before I send it back. I never thought to do that.
ADS arranged for a replacement, however I have to send it back 1st uggh.. Min of 2 weeks without one..

I'm a handless user as well...

On the rotary, I have an adjustable handle that I *love*.

How exactly does one machine polish without the use of his hands?

It's better to use the handless polisher after a washless wash.

Did the LSP coats tonight without the handle. It was much easier to control the head pressure and moving it felt more precise.  I could also switch hand positions easier and more naturally.

I guess you all DO know what you are talking about!  :nw:

Don't you use the 'balance it on your knee' and 'hold it with your foot' method?  Geesh, man.  Get with it.   :nana:
