Hot Flex
« on: July 12, 2009, 06:09:06 PM »
After about 30 min of use my new Flex is hot as hell.  After the first session of detailing I was trying to see if I could adjust the handle and to the 90? angle and I see the front plastic cover comes off so I leave it off thinking it will get more air this way and then I found out why the plastic cover is there in the first place...

The whole front silver part of the machine gets very hot.
Is this normal?

Not sure how hot yours is, but mine also gets hot as well.  I have had days where i work the hell out of it.  And yes its hot.

Thanks for visiting the Cafe, come back often.  There's always something new!

I think that machine pulls 10 amps, if I remember the specs correctly.

That's a lot of juice.

The flex shouldn't pull ten amps constantly.  If it does you power meeter will look like -> :beat:  I would imagine some of the heat will come from breaking in the geartrain up front.

Since I was testing the correcting abilities I was running it at 6 and varying the speed with the trigger...I even tried to see if I could stop it with pressure a couple of times and I could not but with a yellow Megs pad and compound I figured it was the pad/product making it hot.  Then I tried a black 5.5" pad and Poli-Seal and it still got hot...I guess it's just a function of the machine and since nobody has said theirs does not get hot im ok.

It would have to draw some serious amperage to produce the torque it seems to have but I hope it's geartrain breakin and not something else.

Thanks!
