New guy needs alot of help
« on: July 07, 2009, 10:01:58 PM »
Well Im finding myself getting more addicted to taking better care of my truck.  Ive decided to finally take the next step and buy a machine.  The Flex seems like a good choice, but I wanted to see what you guys thought.  I obviously need a user friendly machine. But I want to avoid the urge to upgrade in a year.  Do you guys think the flex is to much for a newbie?

Here are some pics of the paint on my truck.  The entire truck has the swirls going on, some spots with other random scratches.  Some that it sounds like I wont be able to fix (fingernail catches on them).  But I want to fix as many as possible.  The truck is only a couple of years old   07,   but needs some help.   Ive read quite a bit here and on the F 150 forum,  but now Im feeling some brain cramps from all of the info..!  So I thought I would ask questions and see what you guys with experience come up with.   Any advice is appreciated.

Heck Im not even sure this is how to upload a picture!

First off... HI!  (unless I missed the hello thread).

There is a lot of great info here.  I'll let someone else more knowledgeable than me give you the advice.

if you have them on photo bucket...go to the photo and copy the BB Code and then simply paste it into a reply.

for the flex, I love mine...good machine, strong, light.  I do still use my PC ALOT.

Maybe these will work.

How about a Flex for a beginner?

Flex is good for beginner.  no problem and your paint doesn't too bad at all.

Least aggressive first...remember, 1st rule.   :whisp:

What is your plan?

Well that is what I was hoping to get from you guys.  I have read some good things about the 105,  205  Meguiars for the correction.  But that is about the extent of my plan.  I want to get my order placed with Rick at ADS on the flex,  but I have no idea what pads to get.  I am trying to get everything ordered in one shipment,  so ideally I was hoping to get some recommendations on the finishing products also.

Based on what I see, I don't htink you need 105...

You have lots of choices here.

Again, hard to see the full condition of the paint but based on what I see, and hopefully others will chime in, you don't need anything hard core.

you could do 80, 205, SSR1, SSR2, Optimum etc...

Lots more choices too.

I'd probably use 105, personally. Of course, I'm in love with the stuff now after having a very rocky start to the relationship. The thing I've noticed with 105 is that it comes down to pad choice as to how aggressive it is. I can use a white pad on medium speed with 105, and it's literally ready for LSP. At the same time, it's taking care of most minor imperfections.

The paint isnt really all that bad.  The swirling for the most part and then a few spots that almost look like they were sanded with fine paper.  I am guessing I might need 105 for these.  But what pads would I use with a flex?  Smooth or the ones with pockets?   Any recommendations on colors?

If you are going to use 105...I would use a white polish pad or a yellow Megs pad b/c from what I see, it doesn't look that bad. You don't need much cut on the pad, the product is going to get r done.

It "can" finish nice but I would recommend you polish it out with something like 205 (works very nicely btw) or use SSR1 or PB PP.  Those are great combos for a superior finish.
